The Courier Mail is reporting that the NRL wants to ban accredited agents from representing both players and coaches

This ban was previously proposed in 2019 as a stipulation for the Rugby League Coaches Association to receive funding from the NRL, However Greenburg decided to ignore the recommendation and issue the funding without the ban being enforced.

Rabbitohs CEO, Blake Solly says:

“Where agents are in a position to represent both coaches, whether it is a head or assistant coach, or a recruitment manager, and players, you will have a conflict of interest,” Solly said. “We need to work towards removing that existing conflict.”

Rugby League Coaches Association CEO, Kelly Egan said:

“We’re always willing to discuss these issues with the NRL and the relevant stakeholders and to look at the merit of such change,”

A leading NRL head coach, speaking on the condition of anonymity said:

“At the end of the day it’s a conflict of interest,” the coach said.

“If I was managed by an agent who had players too then those conversations when you are looking to bring a player in are different to am I making the best decision for the club.

“It has been going on for a long time, in the last 10 years it has been more prevalent in the game.”

current examples of agents hold on clubs

Panthers: George Mimis - Ivan Cleary/ Cameron Ciraldo and 10 Panthers players

Sea Eagles: George Mimis - Des Hasler and 9 Sea Eagles players

Eels: Orr brothers - Brad Arthur and 6 Eels players

Titans: Orr Brothers - Justin Holbrook and 11 Titans players

Broncos: Isaac Moses - Anthony Seibold and 6 Broncos players (also has Andrew McCullough who left mid season)

Dragons: David Riolo - Paul McGregor and 8 Dragons players (he also has James Graham and his former coach at the Bulldogs Dean Pay)

Good move, but the above list shows that we're far from alone in our situation.

Didn’t Tallis used to bang on that it was 15 players under Moses? **** that guy can talk some shit.

It would be interesting to see a full rundown on each club which shows which players and coaches are registered with which agents. There is way too much of players holding off on contracts so they can get rid of their agent happening nowadays. This must surely impact on clubs trying to manage their cap going forward.

The obvious conflict of interest could also create situations where coaches may continue to field out of form players solely because they are managed by the same agent and there is financial considerations at play.

How about how the titans are in the exact same position except it's with 11 players.... nobody calling him out on it either... **** he's a wanker
