I'm not sure how relevant these matches are going to be in the grand scheme of things, but as somebody who enjoys a good 'what if' I like seeing these extended squad players mix it with the NRL contracted players. It just provides a nice lay of the land knowing which players are in the frame of NRL selection and if any of these ISC players are even being considered.

That Newcastle/Dragons game shapes as the most interesting game of the lot. St George have announced a strong line-up with 19/27 NRL contracted players on show and it could be a good opportunity for Jayden Sullivan or the Feagai brothers to put their case forward. After their worst season in their short history, spots in the team should be wide open, especially in the backs.

Titans take their women’s team players for numbers 9, 10 and 11?

Rabbitohs up 18-14 going into halftime. Eels have missed a few kicks and should be probably equal at halftime. It's been a pretty good match so far, not too scrappy for a trial. Eels been the better team leading 14-6 for much of it but the Rabbitohs hit back with two quick tries to make it 18-14.

I liked what I saw from the Rabbitohs. The Eels ran plenty of traffic at Taaffe and Ilias but they stood up and managed to post first points with their first opportunity. I thought Terepo and Utoikamanu did well and maintined the Eels advantage through the middle to give the Eels the lead. Then it just fell apart for the Eels, they went close to making it a 20-6 half-time break only to find themselves behind. It was smart work from J. Cook and Allan to combine around the ruck. While the other was off the back of a strong from Marsters and Ilias just summed it up down the short-side with Paulo in the corner.

The second half was something of a fizzer as both teams were just experimenting with different combinations. The biggest story was the appearance of Jai Field who supposedly ditched his move to Leeds and turned up at Parra on a train and trial. He was a bit rusty but he's certainly a good depth option.

The players who stood out to me were Cook, Paulo and Tatola. For the Eels I was really impressed with Mahoney and how he got them over the advantage line. I thought Evans, Terepo and Utoikamanu were strong through the middle and Lane really posed a threat on the left. Fonua had some nice touches early but his head dropped after he spilled a bomb and he struggled to get back into the game.
