NRLW & General Women's Rugby League Discussion 2021-22

Round Five Results:

Valleys (a) 20 def Tweed 8
Burleigh (a) 18 def WB Panthers 14
Gold Stars (a) 32 def Valkyries 14
Tigers (h) 20 def Capras 16

Round Six Results:

Burleigh (h) 22 def Gold Stars 20
WB Panthers 44 (a) def Valkyries 0
Tweed (a) 20 def Capras 14
Valleys (h) 38 def Tigers 4

Final round next weekend before semi finals and funnily every one is playing their below (or above) neighbour on the ladder

Burleigh (1st, 12pts) v Valleys (2nd, 12pts)
Gold Stars (3rd, 8pts) v WB Panthers (4th, 6pts)
Tweed (5th, 4pts) v Tigers (6th, 4pts)
Capras (7th, 2pts) v Valkyries (8th, 0pts)

The finals however are all but locked in as Tweed would have to belt the Tigers and Gold Stars the same to the Panthers to remove points differential (+40, -52) for Tweed to overtake the Panthers, so all that matters is how the top 4 finish.

Burleigh and Valleys are both undefeated on 12pts in a playoff for 1st, Panthers would have to win by 23+ to overtake the Gold Stars into 3rd

Round Seven and Final Regular Season Results

Valleys (a) 24 def Burleigh 0
Gold Stars (h) 22 def WB Panthers 18
Tweed (h) 16 drew Tigers 16
Capras (h) 56 def Valkyries 6

Valleys take care of a fairly under-strength Burleigh 24-0 to claim the minor premiership in their first season. Funny situation where Amber Pilley 'retired' last week for the year, yet ended up back on the field this week for Burleigh off the bench

Gold Stars held off the Panthers 22-18 to remain 3rd and 4th.

Tweed and Tigers remain 5th at 6th following their draw and Capras put a score on Valkyries to get their second win and end the pain for the Valkyries. Again I don't see the positives for players' mindsets that play for them knowing they'll get flogged. Which they did averaging 45.7 points against and only 8.3 points for.

Semifinals next week with 1v4 and 2v3

Valleys v WB Panthers

Burleigh v Gold Stars

Also, over the last few days and finished up this afternoon is the National Championships being played at Dolphins Stadium, featuring teams in Opens and U19s.

Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory, Australian Defence Force and an indigenous invitational First Nations side all played in the Opens. Previously there were QLD and NSW regional sides and the other states were combined into one, so it's great to see each state have a side this time, and an important step for league in those areas, while also not having to contend with QLD and NSW.

QLD Rubys and Sapphires, NSW City and Country, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Northern Territory are the in U19s, again great to see each state have a side, despite some of the beltings they copped from QLD and NSW

WA beat First Nations Gems 10-6 in golden point to take out the championship in the Opens and the Sapphires beat the Rubys 16 -4 in the U19s final after both beat City and Country respectively in nail-biters in the last games of the round robin

Meg Ward out with a knee injury for up to 12 weeks. Will miss BHP finals and Origin, should be back in time for NRLW though, though maybe not all of it assuming it runs longer than just September this year

Semi Final Results

Valleys 28 def WB Panthers 10
Burleigh 18 def Gold Stars 16

Valleys and Burleigh to play in the Grand Final next week, and I’d be putting everything on Valleys.

Burleigh’s team makeup and performances have gotten more and more inconsistent. They did have a stronger side today with Upton and Loz Brown playing again, so they might be able to put it together next week.

Valleys are going strong every week, plus they have Ali and she’s a winner. Kody House with a double today, curious if they get her back into Origin if she has another big game with Ward, Brander and Elliston out injured

Was a chance today for Wests. When they had them 16-10 and Wests were held up and disallowed a try that was their chance but they just couldn’t get level. Valleys defence was great.

Do you know why Robbo wasn't playing? Semi-final you'd think she'd be there, being captain and all as well

Ali got off her dangerous throw charge.

@1910 Kody not named in the GF team for Valleys? Haven’t seen any reason or talk of her not being there

She was knocked out last week but came back on so you’d think she’d be right.

And considering she’s said she’s giving footy away after this season, she’d do anything to play.

I only say this as the team list on QRL.com has their #11 empty and she’s listed as an out. It could be that it’s automated to put them as an out if they aren’t listed and someone’s just made an error
