[MENTION=1899]Big Pete[/MENTION] ... who are the ones to watch in this years NYC for the Broncos if you know?

Surely TPG will be a late call up for this game.

@Big Pete ... who are the ones to watch in this years NYC for the Broncos if you know?

Outside of those training with the senior squad? (eg. Hipgrave, S'ua, Pangai Jr & Fai)

I haven't seen a lot of him, but anything I've seen of O'Hara has been very impressive. He's had his share of injury problems which has hurt him somewhat, but he looked incredibly sharp in that Seagulls trial and if he can settle in he has all the tools to be a first grade player.

Beyond that, I think Lavea will be a stand out at this level, but it remains to be seen whether his work will hold up, particularly in defence.

Two late first half tries may have sealed it for the Eels.

40 gone.

Eels lead 26 points to 12.

Broncos tries to David Faiud and Gehemat Shibasaki.

Eels won 32-18.

Eels with a last minute try wrap up a comprehensive win.

Sounds like a better second half from the Broncos, but the damage had already been done.

The Broncos’ under 20s have fallen short in their National Youth Competition season opener against Parramatta in Sydney tonight.
Coach Craig Hodges will be ruing a loose period before the break where the Eels scored twice that set up an ultimately match-winning 26-12 lead at halftime.
The Broncos scored the only try of a mistake-riddled second half through new player Tevita Pangai, until Dane Aukafolau scored on the siren.
While the score finished only 32-18, the Broncos can at least take heart from withstanding long periods of defence on their own line in the second half.
In the end they had left themselves too much to do.
The Eels played the left-hand side of the field perfectly in the opening 20 minutes of the match and produced a hat-trick for winger Jermaine Mati-Leifi.
The stocky back went over himself the first time, and then accepted two bombs to score three tries in under 10 minutes.
The Broncos countered though in the 23[SUP]rd[/SUP] minute when hooker Tristan Hope ducked down the short side and gave winger David Fauid enough room to squeeze over.
A nice conversion from the sideline from Hayden O’Hara made it 14-6.
But back-to-back penalties to the Eels gave them four easy points with goals from in front.
Fauid was involved again in the 31[SUP]st[/SUP] minute, set free down the sideline before drawing the fullback to inside man Gehamat Shibasaki.
O’Hara raised the flags again from out wide and the Broncos had cut it to 18-12.
A try to Aukafolau put the Eels out by 10 and then they produced a 40-20 sideline kick to get themselves in scoring position again.
Half back Troy Dargan took on the line and scored to make it 26-12 and leave the Broncos plenty of work to do in the second half.
PARRAMATTA EELS NYC 32 (J Mati-Leifi 3, D Aukafolau 2, T Dargan tries; Mati-Leifi 4 goals) defeated BRISBANE BRONCOS NYC 18 (D Fauid, G Shibasaki, T Pangai tries; H O’Hara 3 goals) at Pirtek Stadium.

The Dyldam Parramatta Eels Holden Cup side have opened their 2016 season with a 32-18 win over the Brisbane Broncos in their Round One clash Pirtek Stadium.

The Eels were the first on the scoreboard through Jermaine Mati-Leifi who scored in the corner after receiving a cut out pass from halfback Troy Dargan. The conversion was unsuccessful, and the Eels led 4-0 after 10 minutes.
The Dargan-Mati-Leifi combination was at it again in the 11[SUP]th[/SUP] minute, as Dargan put up a bomb that sent Mati-Leifi over for his second of the game. Michael Doolan added the two, taking Parramatta’s lead out to 10-0.
Parramatta’s strong defensive efforts kept forcing errors from the Broncos, as they were unable to build pressure in attack.
Mati-Leifi crossed for a hat trick in the 17[SUP]th[/SUP] minute after receiving a cross-field kick from none other than Dargan, extending the home side’s lead 14-0.
Back to back penalties saw the Broncos look close to crossing but strong defence from the Eels forced another error from the visitors.
The Broncos were able to find the line in the 23[SUP]rd[/SUP] minute through David Fauid who crossed in the corner for Brisbane’s first points of the game. Haydyn O’Hara added the two taking the score out to 14-6.
A penalty right in front of the posts gifted the Eels two points through Michael Doolan, which extended Parramatta’s lead 16-6 with 12 minutes remaining of the first half.
The Eels chose to take the kick again after another penalty only a few minutes later, as Doolan added another two for the home side.
An error off the kick off proved costly for the home side as the Broncos made the most of their attacking position off a line drop out. David Fauid found space down the sideline before passing inside to Gehamat Shibasaki who scored for the visitors. The conversion was successful taking the score to 18-12 after 33minutes of play.
The Eels were in again before the break as Dargan set up Dane Aukafolau who crossed for Parramatta’s fourth try in the 37[SUP]th[/SUP] minute.
However, the home side wasn’t finished there, as Troy Dargan kicked a 40/20 with 40 seconds left on the clock. After being held up over the line, the Eels had two seconds on the clock for one final play, which saw Dargan cross for his first try of the game. The Eels took a 26-12 lead into the sheds at half time.
It was a mixed start to the second half as both teams struggled to build any pressure in attack. Strong lead up work from the Parramatta forwards up the middle forced a line drop out, however they were unable to find points.
The home side starting giving away penalties, handing the visitors some close opportunities to find the line. However defence prevailed again as the Broncos kept coming up with errors.
The first try of the second half came in the 59[SUP]th[/SUP] minute as George Fair crashed over for the Broncos. O’Hara added the two, taking the score to 26-18 with 20 minutes of play remaining.
Neither team was able to cross the line during the next passage of play, as the error count started to rise. However, this also displayed the solid effort in defence from the home side.
The game came to an end as Dane Aukafolau crossed for his second and as Michael Doolan converted, the Eels sealed the victory, 32-18.
Parramatta Eels: 32 (Mati-Leifi 4, Aukafolau 2, Dargan. Doolan 4/6, Mati-Leifi 0/1. Penalty Goals: Doolan 2/2)
Brisbane Broncos: 18 (Fauid, Shibasaki, Fair. O’Hara 3/3)

Young Eels post season-opening win - Eels

how did the debutants go thursday , big pete .? all had good games i hope, they would have been pretty nervous.

Judging from the stats, it was a tough initiation for them. Parramatta had 59% of possession and they made 600 more metres than the boys did. They did well to make it a contest at 26-18 late into the game but they simply didn't have it in them to go on with it.

Sounds like Faiud was a handful for them. Scored a try, set another up - from what I've seen of him, he's basically a second fullback more than a bonafide winger. What I mean by that is, he isn't the type of player you put in the cross-field kick for, he isn't going to make dummy half runs or anything like that but you can take him off his wing and have him support the big fellas through the middle.

Tristian Hope got through a mountain of work defensively, 52 tackles 0 misses. Has a few errors in him from dummy half but that's the type of performance he can build on next week.

Pangai Jr made a nice contribution off the bench...

Otherwise there wasn't a lot to be said about the new faces.

As for the experienced players, sounds like S'ua was the Broncos best making 30+ tackles, taking the most amount of runs and setting up two line-breaks. Unfortunately young Keegan Hipgrave had an afternoon to forget - 4 errors, which is something you don't want from your senior players.
