So at Brisbane we have always had that 1 player who can perform magic.

Lewis/Langer and Lockyer. With locky set to leave which player can you picture becoming our next "Mr Magic"? It has never been a player from another NRL/ARL club. Our Mr Magic has always been home grown.

For me its going to be either Hunt or Norman. Both have the potential and hopefully can get a few games in with Locky to learn the trade quickly.

Firstly, Langer like Lewis was from another club if you are using the logic I think you are trying to.

Secondly, you can't learn the "trade" of magic. You either have it or you don't, Lockyer can't teach anyone how to break a game open in the way he did through his god given footy instincts. Both the guys you have named are very talented young footballers but everything else about your post basically makes no sense to me dude.

Gillett. He will play for Australia.

We've got some potential stars on the way up - McCullough and Glenn especially. Those two look to be real leaders for the future. We've got some good young outside backs in Norman, Yow Yeh, Winterstein and Folau (veteran now but he'll be around for a long time yet), and we've got some good forwards who we can build a team around, but we still need a Ben Hannant (hint).

But as far as a STAR goes, one that can just break a game wide open or pull the team from deep in a ring of fire, I'd say if anyone has to be that it's got to be Ben Hunt. He has the potential for sure but we have plenty of time with him, give him that time and he will be a star.

i havent seen hunt play, but i just hope your wraps on him arent like the ones u had for michael ryan, ben cwsiolski (sp) or steve michaels. ill give u the benefit of the doubt and assume ull get this one right

You're doing it again!!! I never ever rated Czislowski, even when he was at the Broncos!!!!

In regards to Ryan and Michaels, well with Ryan we will never know. Before he got those 2 knee injuries he looked like he could be anything, and that's not just me saying that, all the experts were.

Michaels I will cop on the chin.

The Broncos have had 2 "HUGE" stars in our 20 or so years. Lockyer and Langer - Both will end up being immortals probably.

That's 1 every 10 years. Langer goes back from 88...Lockyer started in 96....so every 10 years or so, a new one emerges. We're all over-due. Any time now....

I personally think these days are gone.

The Broncos have had the capacity to attract such players in the past due to A) being close to the benchmark team in the comp since their inception, and B), being the only "real" team in QLD for such a long period of time (crushers, seagulls, giants etc were pure failures).Young kids wanted to play for the Broncos for these reasons.

I just don't think the attarction is there anymore, not to the extent it was anyway. IMO we are no longer the benchmark (in terms of on feild performance anyway), and there are other successful teams in QLD now, not to mention other southern clubs having lots of junior development in the state.

Regardless of all this, players like Langer and Lockyer are close to once in a generation type players. It's just lucky for us that they were successful in the same lifetime, and even luckier that they both played for the Broncos. Expecting another Langer or Lockyer to come along anytime soon is hoping for a little too much in my opinion.

I think you're right, he was shaping up to be a big star.

We had one in K Hunt...

we had a showoff in hunt, not a superstar. hunt was never one to dominate a game like lockyer, johns, langer, inglis etc. He was a star ill give him that, not a superstar imo

You have to remember we only saw him until he was 23... In comparison to those his age or younger the consistent influence he has had on games over the last 5 years has been peerless. Name a better performed player under 25.

Inglis has been MIA for 3/4 of his professional career.

inglis has quiet games just like everyone. lockyer even has them. just because he doesnt score 4 tries a game doesnt mean he is mia

Hunt was never a gamebreaker/superstar. he had no ball-playing ability other than being able to shuffle the ball along to the winger/centre in our 1 set move, and a decent grubber kick.

in our squad now, i dont see anyone that can get even remotely close to the Langer/Lockyer/Lewis type of superstardom. thats not an insult though, as really apart from Thurston and Inglis i dont think anyone else in the game at the moment can either. hayne maybe, but he has to become consistent.

While I am a big supporter of young Ben Hunt, I hate the pressure that I feel is going to be upon him to be the next superstar right off. We need to make sure he is given time to develop properly in order for him to reach his full potential.

Langer and Lockyer really are the only true superstars we have had. Usually there is only one or two in every generation of footballers and the Broncos are not necessarily going to have them all. Players like Langer and Lockyer (and especially Lewis, though he wasn't an on-field superstar for the Broncos) cannot be taught what they have - they are born with it and it was allowed to develop and come through with experience.
