The media have certainly had a field day reminding everyone that this is our worst start to a season since 1999, where we lost 8 of our first 10 games, including 5 straight losses to start the season, and as a result forced Alfie to fall on his sword and concede control of the team to Kevin Walters.

We then went on to win our next 11 straight, but even that only allowed us to qualify in 8th position then get sent to Mad Monday in Week 1 of the finals. So the point of this thread? Just to remind everyone (including myself) that things can turn around quickly, but even if they do, after a miserable start like this there is really no recovery possible. 2019 is already a wash, so it's best to just accept it and go along with the ride with hopefully some good debuts from young blokes like Dearden and T. Boyd at some point this season to give us something to look forward to next year.

....Or, somehow they both become the next Ash Taylor and **** off to other clubs on big money and nothing changes. All we can do is hope the club make the right choices this time.

What response did you want from this thread?

Yes

Not one from you.
Sure, my feelings aren't hurt. But what response do you want from this thread? What profound response do you expect from starting this thread?

We're 1-5, the knives are out. What purpose does this thread serve apart from mere venting which you could've done in any other thread?

It's ok mate, it's just a sport.

This team is a lot worse than the 1999 one to be fair.

1999 was a team of superstars who were suffering from an elongated premiership hangover. Bennett said in his first book that he knew very early on in training camp that it would be a long season as the "killer instinct" attitude had gone missing. As it was, they went on the longest unbeaten streak (13) in club history just to grab 8th place. Comparisons are pointless between the '99 and '19 versions because there is no comparison.

If we find ourselves in the same position, there will be no miraculous turnaround.

The squads and experience levels are vastly different.
