MORE heads have rolled at the Broncos as the club continues its spring clean after failing to qualify for the NRL finals for the first time in 19 years.

Elite player development manager, Peter Nolan and sports scientist, Tim Gabbett yesterday joined under-20s coach, Matthew Wood as casualties of a 2010 season.

Broncos chief executive Bruno Cullen said Andrew Gee, general manager of football operations, and Terry Reader, general manager of commercial operations, had reviewed the club's operations.

Their recommendations to the Broncos board were based on efficiencies rather than performance, Cullen said.

Gee, a former Broncos prop, was appointed in May, with Nolan moved from football manager to a development role.

Nolan was recruited by former coach Wayne Bennett in 1999 and his first job was as assistant to current coach Ivan Henjak at Broncos affiliate, the Toowoomba Clydesdales.

Cullen said Henjak, whose position is also believed to be under threat, had nothing to do with the sackings.

"The changes have nothing to do with team performance," Cullen said. "These decisions would have been made even if we had won the premiership.

"The decisions have been run past Ivan because we want to make sure the coaching department is not disaffected. But the decisions were nothing to do with him."

Gabbett had been with the Broncos for three years.

He and Nolan will not be replaced, but former top schoolboys coach Kurt Richards has already been confirmed as under-20s coach, with former Queensland prop Scott Tronc his assistant.

"Peter and Tim are good people who did good jobs, and it is not a reflection on their performance," Cullen said.

"We benchmarked ourselves against clubs in the NRL and AFL and felt as a company we could drive some efficiencies."

In his 11 years at the Broncos, Nolan filled a number of roles, including development manager and football manager.

On Monday, Nolan helped complete under-20 player reviews and had no inkling the axe was about to fall. At 9.30am the next day he was told he was no longer required.

Cullen said none of the changes were the result of the finals failure.

When he took on his new role, Gee said no one had reason to fear for their jobs "in the short term".

Jeba should be interested in this. I know he (and I) had quite a lot of respect for Pete Nolan, so it's surprising to see he gets shafted.

Seems really strange? Is it just Cullen getting rid of the last of the "Bennett" men before he hands over the reigns?

Certainly seems an odd decision.

Would it be Cullen or Gee though?

Gee conducted the 'overview'.

Don't be fooled Ning, Cullen would have be the one who decided for them to go and he would have done it with a smile on his dial.

Getting rid of Nolan is a bad move, the guys has done wonders at the club. Bennett will give him a job at the Dragons. And bring him back to the club when or if he ever comes back.

At least Cullen was telling the truth when he said "none of the changes were the result of the finals failure." Its because they where Bennett boys right Bruno ya **** ing goose.

Just leave now, you're a stain on the club.

Cullen only has a couple of months left as XEO, and IMO he should not have made any big decisions like that, he should have waited until Paul White took control of the club as he isnow charged with deciding the clubs future path not Cullen

Yeah, fair enough. Cullen is probably the driving force behind it.

Agree with Foordy, he should've just left it for Paul White.

It's a tough one though. The "review" was done, and given Paul White doesn't start until January, it'd cut things fine to make significant changes to the football/coaching staff in time to be implemented for preseason training, which will no doubt start in full swing in January.

Haven't they just sacked two blokes, without replacing them? Could've left that for a bit later.

The U/20's coach on the other hand probably needed to be sorted before pre-season.

Well depends, just because they aren't hiring new people doesn't mean the roles themselves don't need to be performed. They will now be distributing those roles amongst people still on staff.

Very disappointed in the decision to cut Peter Nolan - I don't think they realise how much they will miss him.

As I don't know the ins and outs of the Broncos organisation, this is merely an inkling, but the fact that Cullen stresses it has nothing to do with Henjak, makes me think the opposite.
Question is whether Henjak felt threatened by them and is being secured by Cullen, or on the contrary, they were supporting him and they're culling any opposition to a coach replacement...? [icon_shru

Is Nolan the bloke developing our young blokes or does he scout them??

What a load of crap that is. FFS Bruno, you expect us to believe that 3 blokes would've gotten the sack if we won a Premiership this year? **** off now you piece of shit.

Disappointed for Pete. He did a great job in his time at the Broncos and earned his positions the hard way. Has a great work ethic and a really good bloke too.

Just because you win it doesnt mean everyone in the team/organisation is the best man for the job. Some people don't seem to understand that.
