Petition to sack Cullen

This is a ridiculous thread. Enough of the hysterics and calls for sackings. We're not Eastern Suburbs...

Cullen isn't responsible for four 40 point defensive efforts over the last six weeks. We've got a playing group who aren't standing up for the jersey. We're leaking points, have no defensive spine - that's our problem.

As a long time supporter that's tough to cop.

I'm not prone to knee-jerk reactions. My dislike of Cullen is well established and has been for quite some time.

I don't blame Cullen solely for the way we're playing at the moment, but he has not been good for our club IMO.

The club has gone downhill ever since Bruno and Bennet had the tiff over the Roosters debarcle...

I just saw some Berrick magic for the Wallabies, I still believe if we had played him enough and WB and Bruno had given the guy a decent contract he would be the Australian halfback right now, he is a deadset legend. It makes me depressed watching him play union.

It was a shame that Berrick didn't play a lot of games for us. I hated that WB didn't put him in the starting line up a lot and hated that Bruno didn't retain him. They kept Brett Seymour instead.

He's the one that got away...

You seemed to have toned down your feelings for Berrick compared to back in the day.

Bruno seems to think that the Broncos brand will ensure success and quality players.
He is about a decade behind the times.

In general, Bruno continues to support the idea that Rugby Legaue is a dumb game played by dumb players and organised by dumb blokes.

That is why we get cranky.
... or we don't.

I can respect that, just can't cop calls for sackings of coaches and administrators after a poor patch. There's panic and I'm not sure why. It's almost as if some people are paranoid of missing the finals. It's not as if the club has fallen in a heap. We're struggling but aren't in as bad a position as some people are making it out to be.

I've been indifferent to some of Cullen's methods but overall I don't believe he's been completely bad for our club. He hasn't measured up to Shane Edwards but there are many worse chiefs out there.

^^ As Broncos fans we have been very luck to support such a successful club; if we do miss the finals this year, it will be a big disappointment but it was going to happen sooner or later.

Since we last missed the finals in 1991 we are the only club to make every single finals series. in fact the next best teams in terms of finals appearances are:

Storm have missed 2
Dragons and Raiders have missed 5

I'm not sure who is to blame for our current ladder position, whether it is

* A young inexperienced side that struggles to maintain the consistency needed at NRL Level
* Henjak making poor selection decision
* Cullen letting certain players leave

I don't think you can blame every player that has left on Cullen. Civoniceva leaving seemed to be a big fu*kup all round. if the reports are true we were never going to match the Bulldogs offer (of 350k a season) for Hannant, nor do i think we should have tried. and no-one seems to know the figure that we are paying Folau, i have read reports where they said he was on 300k a year and others where they say he is on 500k a year (these seem to mainly be Sydney publications). If Hunt leaves i also don't beleive this can be blamed on Cullen.

With regards to Henjak, IMO, he should at the very least see out his ENTIRE 2 year contract, towards the end of his second year is when we should evaluate his performances and then the club should decide on whether he deserves an extension. some people probably wont remember this but Bennett start to his career at the Broncos at this stage resembles Henjaks start, the Broncos got off to a flyer beating the reigning premiers, then falling away to miss the finals. in fact Bennett had calls for his sacking in 1991 after the missed the finals and he really didn't make his mark with Brisbane until 1992 when we won our first premiership and since then we have not missed the finals.

Those are my thoughts on things, i hope you enjoyed reading my novel

Hate to break it to you Gymp but Berrick was never going to stay in League. This I know for a fact - my brother grew up with him and they are still mates. Union is the footy code he really has always loved and we were all very surprised when he signed with the Broncos in the first place. (and IMO, I actually think cricket was his best sport, but that's another story).

The Leagues club is still making money.. Oh and we have the greatest CEO of all time.

The biggest turnaround that has come over the past few seasons is that we used to be seen as the leading sporting club in Australia in absolutely every aspect of our business. We were the innovators in the way we did things on and off the field. But for years now we have kind of just stood still and stopped looking for new and better ways to do things. Other footy clubs (both League and other codes) have surpassed us. Gus was just talking about the Titans new High Performance Centre they are building and he is right - it is amazing - they are the new innovators and will be the new envy of everyone. It's the whole package that attracts the best players or makes good players great players - we no longer have that selling point.

I think missing the finals will (hopefully) be one of the best things to happen to us. It will force the club to have a real examination of itself in all areas. There have been seasons past where we really haven't done as well as we could or should, but we've still made the finals, so it hasn't forced anyone in the club to have a good hard look at themselves.

Someone's head has to fall... the club has been falling to bits and looking less and less likely to do anything positive in a few years now and yet we never see anyone getting thier BUTT kicked over it.

So many people keep saying "Oh No! we won the comp in 2006" and I agree, we did, but we did it on the back of six or eight weeks of good footy and the efforts of three very good players leading the way, but otherwise we have had this gutless, fall to bits, lose to the wrong teams, lose in the wrong way and fall into to slump at the drop of a hat manner about us for a fair while.

Ever since the departure of the players that built the club (Langer, the walters boys, johns, gee, renouf and co.) we have bounced from one slump to another like no thoer club in the comp and certainly like no other club with so many $$$ running around out on the park.

We have always had one of the best players in the world and they have helped our team to look good and win, but not turned us into a good team. We bounced from Lewis > Langer > Lazo > Tallis > Webcke > Lockyer... and sadly for Lockyer is that the performances of the team are now too low for him to drag back and he's getting past being able to do it as well as he used to.

I would axe Henjack, not because he is to blame, but because he is not up to fix the core problem. We have won so many games on the backs on one or two players ability and won so very few as a result of a full team effort... and that's been happening for years and I believe it has become a culture.

A culture of leave it to someone else. :(

From the Broncos fans that i have spoken to since Fridays loss, all seem to think the same thing, and that is that the Broncos were never going to miss the finals again and it is just unrealistic.

I predicted we would be very borderline for them at the start of the year and alot of people refused to see how crap our pack is or the fact we had a rookie coach. I do understand people have bias towards there team and even I picked them for 7th which looking back was probably a couple of spots to high but we were pretty much destined for a massive drop off this year with the coaching change and in's and out's we had.

Your right champ but some of us try to be positive we do have an awesome backline but tbh even they aren't performing to a good enough standard...

He has the richest club. The club with the most fans that turn up week to week and the club most junior players in QLD want to play for.

Why the hell is it going down the drain? There's obviously something wrong and a broom needs to be swept through the joint.

It's not the club the founders who started it off dreamt it would become.

Very sad.

I sign my name to any petition that calls for Bruno to be sacked. I would hate to see us end up like the Eels.

The forwards need to pull their finger out before the backline can perform tbh.

A quote from Wayne Bennett from 2002: "A good club needs a strong CEO, a strong person in the front will attract strong people in the back". Pretty much says it all, don't you think?
