In another thread I have posted about how the Hilf's lack of image affects his ability to take wickets.
In fact, I suggested that he portrays an image of a banjo playing bloke who spends too much time up in the mountains with his brothers and sisters.
It got me thinking...
Skull O'Keefe suggested that Mike Beer should have marked his debut batting performance at the SCG by striding to the middle with a schooner in his hands.
He then said Beer should place the schooner behind the stumps and then ask the umpire for guard.
I like that idea and I think that there should be more of it.
Imagine if the Hilf was to exploit his image a little more.
Just picture the scene as Punter or the Pup throws him the ball to start a spell and the Hilf whips out his banjo and breaks into a version of 'Folks are dumb where I come from".
It would be electric.
Then the Hilf would throw the banjo down and use it as a bowling marker for his run up ( the rules could be changed so it didn't matter if the instrument was struck - no run penalty ).
In fact, the Hilf should be allowed to run around the boundary with his banjo and use it to field.
The only proviso would be that he also has to bat with it.
Imagine the marketing possibilities.
Let's turn our attention to Doug 'the Rug' Bollinger.
Let's have a visual of the Rug standing at he end of his run up ready to charge in with the new pill.
There he is all fired up with his hair blowing in the wind.
Then, quick as a flash, he goes over and picks it up and glues it back on.
The batsmen would know he is ready for business.
Any ideas on how some of our other stars could use their image?
