Wallace, Pearce miss selection

NEW South Wales half-backs Peter Wallace and Mitchell Pearce have surprisingly missed selection in Australia's 46-man provisional Australian squad for the World Cup later this year.

Hope this hasn't been posted, I couldn't see a thread about it.

Somewhat hilarious that Wing gets selected but Pearce and Wallace don't.

Also amusing that Cronk, Prince and Thurston, all QLD halfbacks, are ahead of the 2 best NSW halfbacks.

Brett White [icon_lol1.

Shows the lack of quality props in Australia at the moment.

Interesting that Crocker and Buderus are both there even though they're going to the ESL next year. Didn't Stuart say he wasn't going to pick people who were leaving the NRL? And if Crocker and Buderus are there, why not Gasnier?

Some dubious, yet predictable selections in there as always. Still a top squad though and the backline, provided they are all fit, should tear our opponents to shreds on their own.

Luke Odonnell??? He hasnt played enough games this year to be selected. i can think of many other 2nd rowers to take his place

Good, Wallace being left out means he will definitely be playing for Scotland.

When does the squad get cut down to a more realistic number?

I wouldn't be reading too much into this just yet. This is purely to cover injuries and the like, so as these players aren't selected for their 2nd choice countries. The NRL doesn't want the World Cup to end up embarrassed in a situation where Mason, Anasta, Civinoceva, Farah, etc are selected for their 2nd country and then get sleected for Australia. . They can't announce a proper squad of 24 until after GF, that's when it gets serious.

Either way....Buderus and Mason!? [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1. Poor sods, they aren't going to be in the firsts, so why select them? Just cruel.

Gasnier didn't get selected coz he will be playing rah rahs.

Buderus has 2 chances of making the team: buckleys and none.

Webb, Simpson and O'Donnell have played about 12 games between them this year. Its ridiculous that they are there!

Poore and Perry are interesting choices, they have been playing well but they arent quite up to rep standard yet I believe.

Cross is in the same boat as the first 3 guys mentioned, hes barely played a game and when he has its been ordinary.

On the plus side it is good to see Monaghan and Jennings get a look in, even though they are pretty much no chance of playing!

It's a pretty big squad. Hope Cross, White, Webb, MIA Watmough (WTF? What has he done in the past year other than going missing in the GF) and Simpson get the boot when it is trimmed.

Paul Gallen...arrgh. Someone run over him, please?

If they've selected England bound players like Bedsy and Crocker, then why not Ryles? Did he run over Sticky's kid or something?

Buderus deserves to be there he is a legend (regardless of being a whinger) he has served the NRL so well and has been the most consistent hooker in the competition this year. He won't dethrone Smith and shouldn't but he deserves to be in the squad, he is old not like Gasnier and has served his country, state and club brilliantly for a long time and it would be a joke if he was excluded because he is winding down his career in the ESL.

Happy to see Glenn Stewart and Jennings rewarded with their spots tbh.

But whoever put White and Webb in there over Ben Hannant needs their head read.

I'd go with this team..

Hunt, Folau, Inglis, Hodges, Monaghan, Lockyer, Prince, Price, Smith, Civ, Laffranchi, Gallen, Bird

Bench: Myles, Thaiday, G. Stewart, Gidley

Anyone else not a bit annoyed that Quinn Jennings & Hayne all got selected in front of Boyd who was on the winning Origin team? Quinn ffs!

And no Hannant or Harrison, yet they select Simpson and White? Bloody NSW-centric selectors. Did QLD not win the last 3 Origins?
