Quade Cooper heading to the Eels?

Yes, well I'm not overly worried about AFL to be honest.

Overseas league and union are the biggest threats to the NRL's playing roster.

And here lies the major issue with the salary cap.

People can whinge and moan all they like about making it fair, because god forbid the useless clubs might go under, but this is just proof.

Any sporting code can come to the NRL, and take what they want. Because they can pay for it. But it can never happen the other way around, because of the stupid restricting cap.

The cap has to go. It needs to go. The cap is only causing the clubs that need to go under, to stay in the game, and hold it back. It's stupid.

^ this. 100% agree.

And Foordy I don't really know the ins and outs of the AFL Salary Cap but from what little I do understand it is nowhere near as restrictive as the NRL Salary Cap. The AFL also has a player draft - which I would absolutely hate to see in the NRL also. As Nashy basically said, the only ones who actually benefit from the NRL Salary Cap are the clubs who shouldn't still be in the competition.

my understanding is the cap is around the 6million mark for 38 players, but there is no restriction on 3rd party deals (they don't count to the cap)

If the NRl did that, we probably would never lose any of our players. Wishful thinking...

PARRAMATTA are prepared to make Quade Cooper the highest-paid player in the NRL with a deal worth twice as much as the one tabled by the Australian Rugby Union to keep the Wallabies star.

Having missed out on Melbourne halfback Cooper Cronk after the Storm released Greg Inglis to Brisbane last week, the Eels are willing to offer the same $850,000 deal to Cooper if he decides to switch codes next season.

Not only would the Parramatta deal make Cooper the highest-paid player in the NRL, it would also dwarf the $400,000 offer put forward by the ARU. Cooper, considered Australia's best player and recently named the Super 14 player of the year, is thought to be insulted by the ARU's offer of a $100,000 pay rise to help the Wallabies try to win the World Cup next season.

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/leag ... 125b8.html

that figure is ridiculous if true. paying that much for a guy that hasn't played top level league before (or league at any level for many years) is way over the top. they mustn't have much faith in Mortimer.

Cooper is just trying to force the ARU to offer him more. He has no interest in coming.

But I do hope Parramatta go all out to get him.

Yep, if it smells like crap etc etc. Biggest waste of newspace ever.

I would like nothing more than to see the ARU just say seeya and see how happy he is with his manager for stitching up $1.5m over 3 years instead of $1.8 m and a shot at the world cup.

Titans should make a play for him, if they could afford Inglis then they might be able to afford Cooper.

Seriously that is just crazy. I don't care how talented he may be now or in the future - fact remains when you look at his career objectively he has had ONE good season. Anyone willing to throw that kind of money at someone based on one good season needs serious mental help. I have only seen him play a few games of Union, but Dan Crawley was on Sports Tonight and he said that Cooper has major defensive flaws, which would be found out much more in league than they are in union. He also made a good point that Cooper would be better off playing through to the end of the World Cup and seeing if he can really make it at the pinnacle of one sport before even considering switching codes - because basically he has so far achieved pretty much nothing in union.

He was peeping through the window at Alhambra lounge in 2008.

I hope Parra does sign him up for a lot of money.
