The Dolphins discussion

Think they will have to add another colour to their logo as the nrl have said they can’t be just red and white like the dragons.
Dolphins don’t really go with red unless Redcliffe is in the name.

some notes:
  • I don't see Fifita taking a sizeable pay cut
  • he has Oates on 500k ... Chammas put him on 150k
  • Kodi Nikorima isn't coming back to play bench for 250k

If Fifita takes a 450-500k pay cut, they need to be looking deep into that

Why? That's all he's really worth at most. Just because the Titans were dumb enough to pay 1.1-1.2m doesn't mean any other club will be, or even that the Titans would be dumb enough to do it twice.

You can't say he was a failure for them this year, he did what anyone with half a League brain expected he would do. Made some strong carries and a few tries where he knocked 2-3 blokes out of the way in the process.

Usually when they go from 1 million dollar players to taking a massive pay cut they have to be monumental failure, I can't say he has been. Nobody actually expected him to single handedly win games for his team, not even Taumalolo was doing that when Thurston was there with him.

It was a bad signing but that's no fault of Fifita's. He will get another contract around that price range. If it turns into a bidding war (which is why the Titans ultimately ended up paying that much in the first place), he could easily get a similar contract.

the Courier Mail is reporting that Bennett had a clause in his Souths contract that says he can't poach their players or staff for a period of 6 months after his contract expires on November 1

That's quite a telling clause to put in a coaches contract.

They are basically accusing him of poaching players between clubs on his ventures, which isn't exactly a new revelation but to have that clause written into his contract..

I personally think this will be the true acid test of Bennett's coaching career, we all know how great he is and you can't really argue that but while he was here with us he has the cream of the crop in regards to talent to pick from, he wound up at a few other clubs that had a solid roster and was able to tag a player or 2 along with him (the main one being Darius Boyd, who in his prime was as good as anyone).

He has to build a team here without being able to drag along a star player from Souths with him and there's no obvious targets coming out of Brisbane (as most of them will be locked away under contract).

He wasn't a failure but he was never worth 1 mill. So I think that price is fair.

Anyone play for the Dolphins as a kid/teen?
