Reserve Grade

What is the gain for the ISC? I still not clear what this achieves you can go watch Pride v Norths on Sunday anyway for half the price and sit on grass and have a great afternoon.

so the ISC are happy to take our depth players to help them on the field, but not prepared to give anything back

I guess too, fans of ISC teams may not be fans of Broncos, even if their team is an affiliate.

Why would someone pay more to watch their team that doesn't have the same feel as a suburban crowd would? Tribalism is important at this level and a lot of that comes from the community feel, I don't see how plonking them as a warmup game in a "corporate" setup would replicate that.

Wouldn't these guys probably be playing for them anyway if they weren't contracted to Brisbane?

I don't really see it as loaning them players, infact I could see how it's a pain in the arse to shoehorn in players every week just because the Broncos want that player playing.

They give the Broncos their players! Do you want me to list all the ISC players to play for the Broncos?

You're screaming for this like 50,000 people are lined up now to watch the Pride v Norths at Lang Park. They're not. We've done it before and ask the Toowoomba players if it was a great idea.

Also you ignore the fact- Norths get Nikorima- he is from Norths! You're giving back something you took not as altruistic as you're claiming.

Here is a little poll- how many times did you concentrate and watch the Toowoomba games for 80 minutes when they were before Broncos' games?

Exactly the assumption every Redcliffe fan is just dying to travel 45 minutes to go see the Broncos and must hate walking 15 minutes up the road and sitting on grass and having a beer is a very entitled one.

Exactly two guys on Friday night that train once and play on Sunday isn't the utopia it's thought to be. Also that may have a terrible attitude and may have the sooks on.

Personally, I would much rather go back to a proper reserve grade comp, like they had when i was growing up.

but since that is unlikely going to happen again, i want to see a second quality game of footy before the Broncos matches.

FTR, i don't consider the NYC quality, i have never really been a fan of the concept and aren't all that sad it is disappearing.

Women's comp? Maybe 30 minute halves as well. The games we see now are the top tier women and if we dilute it with 17 players for each club the quality/skills/fitness is going to go wayyyyy down. I don't even know if I want to see that happen just yet anyway.

I think what we're going to see is that a lot of NSW based clubs will have their NSW Cup sides as the prelim while the Queensland based teams will have to figure it out for themselves.

Eventually they may bring in the women as a prelim, but at this stage the quality just isn't there and won't be for a couple of years.

But yeah essentially I don't think a national reserve grade competition is necessary and whatever resources the NRL would be willing to put into that should be invested into the current competitions and grass-roots level. If clubs can work out a deal to get one of their feeder clubs to play before the main game, that would be handy but not essential. If the NRL is concerned about crowds, they need to care more about other factors like scheduling, marketing, membership packages, stadia (a lot of Sydney stadiums quite frankly aren't good enough) etc. to entice fans to get off the couch and head to the games.
