Personally I hope he does get the spot on the ARL board. The man is a visionary and a great sports administrator and could really move the game forward if certain people let go of the past and let him do what he is best at.

NEW South Wales officials led by Parramatta CEO Denis Fitzgerald will fiercely oppose moves for the inclusion of former Super League supremo John Ribot on the ARL board.
Fitzgerald said there was still "deep hatred" for Ribot from supporters and ARL-aligned clubs over the Super League split of 1995-1997 and his appointment could undo some of the good work of the last decade.

The funniest thing is that most of what Super League set out to achieve with Ribot's vision has since been implemented in the NRL, so they obviously think it was good - they were just pissed they didn't think of it first.

I read some bullshit article from a News Ltd journalist of all people, saying how Ribot shouldn't be back because of the Super League war and the fact he "represented the losing side"...WTF? Super League won, albeit by virtue of a compromise!

And whether you think he was right or wrong, Reebs was still in charge of the army that lost. Rugby league needs administrators to move the game forward. To compete with the growing threats of AFL, soccer and union.

Super League's (real) goals:
1. Foxtel to have exclusive pay TV rights ownership for rugby league in Australia. TICK
2. 12 team competition. PARTIAL TICK...got a reduction in teams
3. New administration not run by ARL boys club. PARTIAL TICK...NRL board is half business, half cronies.
4. Removal of ARL, QRL and NSWRL from decision making power. CROSS...probably the biggest thing they failed to achieve.
5. Fully professional sport where players get paid well...TICK. Salaries are still much higher than they were prior to April 1, 1995.
6. A presence in Melbourne...TICK.
7. Strong presences in Adelaide and Perth...CROSS (but that wasn't their fault alone, they were both victims of the war)

They were the core goals. The crap about "being recognised in China" etc was just marketing spiel, they never had a goal of that, that was to lure people to their side.
