Hooker at Bears.

These are some of his stats for 2022.

3 tries
14 try assists
3 line breaks
1 forced drop out
687 running metres
804 tackles 103 missed

How many games ?

Forgot to put that part. 23 games, 18 starting and 5 from the bench. He played the last 5 games from the bench so maybe that says something.

I feel like teams are starting to put their "better" hooker on the bench now unless they can play 80mins... if they're starting but can't play 80 then they need to be subbed off and then subbed back on to finish the game.

If you start them from the bench then it's one sub to get them on at an opportune time at which point they can close out the game.

- Our best games this year had Billy starting and Paix from the bench to finish out the game.
- Last year storm started Harry from the bench and started with BSmith
- Raiders start with Woolford and bring Starling from the bench
- At times Panthers have started Kenny to bring Api off the bench
- Rorters start with Verrals and bring Watson off the bench

If you're best hooker can play 60+ mins comfortably, then they should start, but if they can only get through 40-50mins, then I think teams are looking to start them from the bench.

Tyrone Roberts is he not signed for next year?

Here is what Oates says about the 1 year contract extension:

“You always like a longer deal, but the one year is what it is and we will go from there,” Oates said.

“I have done two or three one-year deals in the past and they have never gone against me. I just wanted to get the deal done and I can now focus on football next season.

“I have backed myself a few times now, so why not keep doing it?

“It seems to keep working for me, so I will back myself and see what I can do.”

Great attitude

What would be working against him would be that formidable adversary... time..

Over the age of 30 I think 1 yr contract extensions are the best idea for a club, unless you are dealing with an exception... Reynolds as a key spine signing was an exception.

Far out... Oates will only be 28 next season, seems like he's been around forever, still... speed isn't increasing at that age for a winger.

Does anyone remember that brief period last year against the tigers when it was being reported Oatesy had a compound fracture of his femur? **** that was a rough couple of hours. Turned out he just got a gash by a boot or something?

Im glad the big fella is sticking around

I like this signing ... gives us some quality depth in the halves.

I actually thought we should try to sign him earlier in the year, but doubted it would happen, because all the talk was he was going to leave the Tigers because he was behind Brooks.

IMO, him coming to us to be stuck behind Mam and ARey, shows he is thinking about the long term. being mentored by ARey and positioning himself to take over from him in a couple of years. (he'll only be 24 when ARey is off contract)
