Very impressed with kahus goal kicking
Good win away from home and against the premiers
And there are plenty of things to work on so it's a good sign for things to come

Good win, but a lot to work on. Hunt needs to pull his head out of his ass and fast. Milf was alright but could be better. Sims and Moga were amazing, as was Thaiday.

3. Sims
2. Thaiday
1. Moga

Two debutants in the points. Great sign.

Broncos by 8.
Kahu first try scorer.
Gillett man of the match.

Yeah god i was screaming haha hate those dirty pricks. The ref allowed like 5 shoulder charges. We got away with it in the end. Never looked like loosing but had a few silly moments. Good to start on the front foot.

Moga was solid, Not exactly an amazing performance

Tommy giving it to Ben Hunt in the footy show

@Unbreakable did Gillett get the 9 MOM? I stop watching that shit the second the match is over

Really wish I could have seen this. Waiting for livestream to upload the full game (fingers crossed) but excited to read the BHQ forum's thoughts.

My pupper (15yr old Westie) is hiding in the kids bedroom. Footy has started haha.

That run from Sims in the first half was immense. He's more than filled the gap left by Wallace and Parker.
Milf and Hunt still need to find their 2015 form.
Blair was running hard and forward. Made up for his mistake on kick off.
Moga and Oates is a big combo. At least Oates doesn't have to cover his centre in defense anymore but he might still have to cover for Milf.

The Broncos have spoiled Cronulla's first hit-out as defending premiers with a 26-18 win at Southern Cross Group Stadium to kick off the 2017 Telstra Premiership season.

Wayne Bennett's men had to survive a vigorous second-half fightback, but a bit of individual brilliance from five-eighth Anthony Milford sealed the result 10 minutes from full-time.

Youngster Jayden Brailey more than held his own on Thursday night, with the Sharks rookie chalking up 40 tackles in an impressive 60-minute stint.

It took just one tackle for the defending premiers to deliver a statement of intent with five Sharks driving Adam Blair back in-goal to induce a roar from the crowd every bit as loud as the one heard at ANZ Stadium on October 2 last year.

But the Broncos wouldn't be overawed by the occasion, and after withstanding the early onslaught they opened the scoring through Jordan Kahu, who also grabbed the first try of 2016.

Much had been made about Valentine Holmes's unavailability for the season opener, with some questioning how Gerard Beale would handle the responsibility of playing fullback. They needn't have worried as the former Bronco screamed onto a Jack Bird offload to level the scores after 13 minutes.

After a frenetic opening quarter, the Broncos settled things down via the boot of Kahu after Wade Graham had been penalised for taking out Matt Gillett as he chased through a kick.

They would extend their lead nine minutes from the break when James Roberts lived up to his billing as the 'Jet' to speed past the defence to ground Milford's grubber just inside the dead-ball line.

The Broncos lost Alex Glenn to concussion just before half-time but they didn't let it affect them with winger Corey Oates diving over spectacularly to push the lead out to 14 points six minutes into the second stanza.

It appeared nothing was going Cronulla's way until Jack Bird fortuitously overran Chad Townsend's grubber allowing James Maloney to pounce on the loose ball to score a much needed try.

With momentum firmly on their side, the Sharks cut the gap to two points when Ben Hunt's midfield error was punished by Ricky Leutele whose sliding effort was adjudged good enough by the fans, and more importantly the bunker.

It seemed a matter of time until the Sharks would take the lead, but the game turned on its head when Paul Gallen charged down a Josh McGuire kick into a teammate, gifting the Broncos field position via a fortuitous penalty.

From the ensuing set, Milford showed why he is considered one of the most explosive players in the game as he danced his way through the defence before powering his way to the line to put the result beyond doubt.

Broncos 26 (Jordan Kahu, James Roberts, Corey Oates, Anthony Milford tries; Jordan Kahu 5 goals) def. Sharks 18 (Gerard Beale, James Maloney, Ricky Leutele tries; James Maloney 3 goals) at Southern Cross Group Stadium. Half-time: 14-6. Crowd: 11,493.

Strong game from the lads there!!!
I thought our forward pack as a whole was solid and faced up the sharkies. Hunt and Macca were disappointing, as was some of our edge defence.

Moga and TPJ were really strong and they really provided for me, as did Herman who was solid with a nice few runs. He just got caught out rushing up to hard and getting beaten twice or so.

I'd like to see Joe over Jai next game and Glenn needs to be brought on at 50 minutes and then replace Thaiday for the last 20.

Very good from the boys. Really liked TPJ and Arrow off bench. McGuire and Gillett did a mountain of work.

Kahu very very good. Hunt pretty ordinary, actually.

Liked the leg drive from Blair and Sims. **** good to see against that Shark pack. Also Blair niggling Maloney, great to watch.

Won't miss Parker taking a million penalty kicks for goal, liked Boyd's go for it style.

Milford's miss on Townsend was embarrassing and let sharks back in the game. Really fucking bad miss. Sure he made up for it, but **** get the kid a tackling coach.

Moga / Milford channel will be where Morgan will be running all night next week. Could be a cricket score if we don't get it right.

Broncs looked a bit frosty towards Hunt out there. Didn't seem to be a lot of love when he got the dropout, nor at full time.

Otherwise, we looked solid but not great. I missed the first half, but we looked to be running more directly than last year. Much less dancing around, apart from McGuire.
