Paix had a decent game for a change. Gave crisp service out of dummy half. His defence was ok.

I'd like both hookers to cut down on passes thrown out in front of the kicker on the last tackle. Reyno had to reach for a few last night...

On the call by Cummins to check the DWZ no try in the first half after the touch judge said he was out, I thought that was strange.

I was under the impression that when a touch judge says a player is in touch, even touch in-goal, the ref had to accept that decision.

That's not what happens, though. Cummins decides to send it to the bunker which denies us a quick tap.

The interpretation could be different and Cummins could still send it to the bunker. It very rarely happens so there aren't past incidents that I can recall to go on.
Try scoring situation over rules that i think. Unless a captains challenge is put forward in general play.

Touchies have so little respect these days, and when they do their job well, noone believes their call. Furthermore, they have spent a heap on the Bunker and it adds to the entertainment/engagement of the viewers, so they use it a lot. I would reckon it is a mandate regarding try scoring situations. The touchie rule you quoted most likely holds for the field of play. For example, the short kick off that apparently was not a knock on.

In any case, that ref was very certain on every Wah try.

I will also point out @Midean that DWZ had two bombed tries, they were disallowed because he flubbed them. But yeah, he was good last night. However, some of the penalties he earned were pretty soft, with him moving forward off the mark. The one against Riki was bs and the one against Willison was also soft.

Ref didn't call a lot of the NZ flops and working the ruck stuff for the Broncos, but I'll take the win.

The one against Willison was BS.

He got smashed and then kept moving forward to ptb

So often over the last few weeks we've been called time off and back to the mark, but DWZ gets rewarded last night for being dominated in a tackle.

#GameManagement at its best with that one last night

Mate he had a cracker of a game last night.
I dont really pay too much attention to players hairstyles haha. ( Patty's glorious locks the exception).
Just my opinion, but i reckon he was the best out there.
For what its worth DWZ scored a double, could have had five tries in the bag if they were not denied a few and had cracking defense all night.
I also thought Staggs played well despite a lot of people saying he was shit.
Staggs was good for 70 minutes. Had a horrid final 10 which nearly cost us the game.

Sailors hand under the ball to stop a certain try. His talk and organisiation of our defence. His perfectly weighted kick for Mariner's second try❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mam's (goal line) defence.🫀🫀🫀
Reyno's leadership, kicking, dummies and all round game.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Jensen, Hetherington, Riki and Palasia solid and dependable games.🪙🪙🪙
Palasia's slips catch to stifle Warriors attack.🗡️🗡️🗡️
Capewell's one on one steal to kill Warrior's momentum.🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪
The coaching staff, and especially the team effort to pocket two vital points without a host of stars.🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
Thank you NZ🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

When you take into account the Warriors were fresh as coming off a bye, had no origin disruptions, were playing in NZ and have been playing some great footy of late, were up against a team that were missing vital players right across the park, you need to realise that those two points will be a huge bonus come the end of the year.

It's the hardest two points to earn and the NSWRL make it so every year. This year it was the team that historically provides a large number of players to the QLD Origin team plays against a team that is nearly always completely unaffected by Origin and this is always scheduled to happen at Origin time?

Two groups want it to happen - the media and the NRL. The NRL power brokers want to shaft us at every opportunity and the media want to run the baby broncos storyline every year. Since the media wants it, the NRL rubs it's hands with glee and says this is what the public wants and we must give it to them.

You forgot Billy’s cheeky strip and try assist which dared the refs to make a call on the pass

I missed that and the try as I had rushed out of the living room to cook up a thai curry during the break. Taking that early start cost me.👀

I think you said Cummins in the other thread as well, but the ref was actually Gerard Sutton. Doesn't change everything else you said being correct, but yeah 😂

I know you are big on Capes to lock and surprisingly he ran better than o expected in the middle. However defensively he just doesn’t hit hard enough at all, not that I had any expectation to be disappointed but without a doubt it caught my attention big time. I don’t think Piakura was dreadful but he definitely highlighted why Capewell has and still is so integral to our side. Patty is an incredible lock, going to be a lot easier to find people to replace Flegler than replacing both lock and second row to the standard we have become accustomed to.
Hits hard enough? I don't care if he gently wraps them up and puts a pillow for their head when they get to the ground, as long as he isn't missing any tackles. Not everyone has to be a hard hitting enforcer.

I think the above is the best we can do for 2024, and that's running with Jensen and Taupau on the bench still and only needing to sign 1 bloke.

Was interesting that Capewell decided to actually have a crack last night, pretty disappointing that it took him getting dropped from Origin to play hard for once.

Last night he had -

A season high 18 touches, previous season high was 16
A season high 161 running metres, previous season high was 117
A season high 64 post-contact metres, previous season high was 39

That should be the new base line for him, do it every week.

Or he stood up to take the work load that our forward pack were missing last night in Haas, Carrigan and Flegler. You wont get anywhere near those stats out of him every week because those guys do the grunt work week in week out.

The attack wasn't as frantic as it has been at times this season and Brisbane ended up with more possession, better completion rate and more points than our season averages without the Origin guys.
