Either Reese Robinson is doing better than I thought or Furner has been painting his house this week.

I didn't watch the Raiders game but did Sam Williams really play that bad to be dropped?? Dugan isn't a 6. He can barely handle the physicality at fullback let alone the extra defence at 6.

Not really.

With a few exceptions the Raiders were awful. Williams was exposed a few times in defence but you'll find it was because of Croker more than anything else. In fact, Williams was the only half to set anything up for the Raiders. McCrone was dead-set useless.

It appears they wanted a bigger half to patch up the defence when really they should just drop Croker.

Dugan/Williams in the halves wouldn't be a bad pairing. I'm yet to see anything special from McCrone, they probably should've dropped him instead of Cooma.
Doogs will do alright there, he's got the skill set to be a 6, whether or not he has the vision I guess we'll see.

It just amazes me how a roster as talented as the Raiders has performed so poorly over the past 4 years.

They arguably have the best junior base in Rugby League yet they haven't converted it into first grade yet.

Yeah, they're missing Campese but they had a whole year to get used to it & have some fantastic halves coming through in Williams, Wighton & Cornish (Milford is another up and comer, ripped up in SG Ball & best of all is a Qlder, keep an eye out) yet they persist with players like McCrone or go with stop-gap solutions like Dugan.

It's frustrating to see because Canberra at their best would add so much to this competition and the rivalry they could have with the Broncos would be amazing. Yet, year after year, it's the same old thing. Couple of promising wins where you think, gee they're going to be a good team next year! Only to see them fail, yet again.

Raiders don't have a decent hooker. Got a huge pack but nobody to get them going

That's definitely apart of the reason, but one position surely doesn't cripple a roster as talented as Canberra's.

Besides, Buttriss wasn't that horrible.

Campese can't get on the field for more than 2 months in the year and Dugan has probably played 60-65% of games. Even though their pack is good, if they don't have those two players fit, they really don't have anyone in the team who can capitalize on their good go forward. Butriss/Waddell are cod ordinary by NRL hooker standards and McCrone, whilst a good, running half, is merely a foil for a superior partner like Campese. He isn't really a go to man.

All fair points but injuries don't excuse 2009 where they largely had a clean bill of health.

I can excuse 2011 due to injuries but how didn't the Raiders adapt to them in 2012? They clearly have some talented halves prospects who can cover for Campese (who's always been a tad overated but that's for another thread) yet they haven't been given the commitment to succeed.

Say wha? Croker was decentish, Williams was absolutely horrible.

Dugan can't throw a pass to save his life.

I've never seen Dugan play anywhere other than fullback. He is a great attacking player and a fearless defender but I don't think he will be able to direct the Raiders backline effectively and there coming up against Benji that will make it even tougher.

Seems to be the thing to do when ur not winning. Play ur best attacking player in 6. Inglis, lawrence, hayne and now dugan.

They saw us do it with Lockyer and think it can work even though they don't factor in how special he was.

Lockyer always had the play making ability even at fullback, not sure dugan has the same skills. In fact im pretty sure he doesnt haha
