One thing Milford did last night that I think should be done more often was a blind side run from dummyhalf coming out of our own end. It was an easy 10-12 metre gain. Has it’s risks, but often it’s not expected from the defence and the quicker guys like Milford can make it work. Throw the dummy and scoot down the blind side.
Yeah I like that play when you know the middle defense is rushing up to smash the one out hitup

It usually results in a quick ptb and get some momentum into your set... it's definitely under utilised

If this was earlier in the season we would have lost. We would not have had the fight back in us. We are improving, and the “effort areas” that Serbs is constantly talking about are starting to happen. Special plays like Haas’ in ET was phenomenal, single handedly got us the 1 point last night, the guy is something very special .
I wish Darius didn’t chuck that Hail Mary, but I will forgive him, he is actually kinda improving. His defence last night was great.
Something needs to happen with that right side though, I’m not sure if Isaako or Coates both need time back in ISC, but Oates coming back in next week will hopefully tighten things up.
TPJ’s strip was on, IF Lodge didn’t come back into the tackle, but prob was a bit risky when we were in front by 2, and they were on our line.
Couple of shit penalties against us, that just weren’t penalties would have seen us get the W, but like i said, if this was earlier in the year, we would have found a way to lose.
I still think for whatever reason, we are missing the start of games, that really needs to be looked into - i’m pretty confident it is a mental thing.
Im confident that things are looking up.

Need a better option in the halves, 2 rookies who have played under 10 games between them.

All they really need to do is organise the forwards and execute basic set plays. Milford is still there to pick up the slack, and Turpin has also showed a decent kicking game. Our forwards are skilful enough to compensate too. It would be a team not unlike the 2012 bulldogs. Average halves that get the job done, and X factor fullback and ball playing forwards.

It would be nice to have a more experienced half but there aren’t too many around off contract. A Keary, DCE, Pearce, Cronk, Reynolds type would be great but I don’t know if we have that luxury.

Rumours are the Jim Maloney will leave Penrith so we could take a punt on him I guess.

Our season is not over still! Like you really care if the Broncos win or lose anyway, you checked out before the season even started.

No I was still hopeful we'd be successful, unfortunately that hope seems to have been in vain. I haven't watched last nights game so I cant really comment but people are really putting a lot of emphasis on a win against a bog average sharks last week and a draw at home with a woeful warriors team.

We are not where we need to be yet, but we are showing a lot of fight. It feels good to know that our team is capable of fighting their way back into the game. The young guys are gaining some really valuable experience and I am actually fairly excited to watch our team continue to develop.

If we can get a few players back and play with more consistency then I am confident we can go further than what we did last year.

Commentary team were esp critical of Milford's predictable kicking, said he lacked variety. Had to agree.
Turpin did some touch finders and had a long one situp perfectly in the in goal. But obviously the game plan is 'give it to Milf on the 5th, which every opposition knows.
Maybe Im in the minority, but I reckon Turps is more a half than a hooker. Wouldn't hurt to let him be the dominant playmaker/kicker against the Dogs.

Sure, you can make up all the shit you want, but I've criticised Boyd as much as I've credited him when he deserved it. I've never seen anything but excuses from you though...
Had the player in this case had a no. 9 on his jersey and a last name ending in Cullough, you would've crucified him.

You can take comfort that your defense of Boyd is better than his defense as Fullback has been the last couple of years... [emoji106]

Lol, I've criticised Boyd heaps but he was easily one our best last night. His defence was actually outstanding, that Fafita try came off the back of Boyd having an awesome kickchase and then backing it up with an excellent 1 on 1 tackle from marker. Warriors went nowhere that set. He was playing like a leader should.

I'm not going to criticise players for poor execution in a 90 minute slog fest.

Oh, and absolutely I'd be critical of Macca. The two are not comparable.

One is a legitimate great player in the game, multiple premiership winner, rep player the majority of his career, Clive Churchill winner. One is a dud who has achieved nothing and should have been out of first grade about 8 years ago. There's a reason I'm more lenient with Boyd. Great players get a lot more rope.

Macca has never built up any good will because he's been borderline average, closer to useless his entire career. You'll also notice I'm a huge fan of Alex Glenn.

In fact go through my posting history. There's very few players I actually bag out with any kind of agenda.

I absolutely hated Hoffman, I can't stand Macca as a player. Besides those two I can't think of any players I've consistently bagged out. I love Milford but I do criticise him from time to time simply because he's our highest paid player and I expect players who take the coin to live up to it. He's far better than your mate Ash Taylor though.

Milf needs to be sniffing in the ruck like what turbo and teddy do but because he is our main kicker i can't see it happening. FB shouldn't be doing most of the kicking, that's why we need a halves with good kicking games so Milf can roam free whenever he pleases.

That's his role when you have a pair of makeshift halves with three specialist number sevens sitting in the injury bay. It's not ideal but you have to make do with what's available.

Or just halves who can tell him to go away and try it themselves, even if they aren't always getting it right. Milford is our best kicker right now, but it's largely taking away his running and support game.

Love your optomisim but the season is finished and has been since the GC pulled our pants down. They will do well to prevent it from being their worst season ever. (Need to finish .500).

How good has Turpin been?
The kid is only 22 and he has been absolutely awesome. I've been impressed with him at 9 but even being thrown into 7 he honestly has not looked out of place. I'm absolutely loving him as a player. Sure he has a few mistakes in him but he tackles like he wants to hurt someone, he has confidence to try things, and he's just an absolute footballer.

The more I see of him, the more I'm convinced the club should hurry up and re-sign him for a couple of years. If he trains hard off the field he could have a decent first grade career.

Yeah, making the 8 is a long shot now. If we somehow only lose like 1 more, it could be possible, but we know this young squad is just incapable of stringing that many wins together yet.

Also, Staggs. He's such a fucking gun. Bennett copped a lot of shit for a lot of reasons, a lot of them rightly so but man he has left us with some absolute gun juniors. Staggs looked awesome in open space, I wish that wasn't a knock on.

He's fast, he is absolutely a 110% effort player so it's easy to see why Seibold favoured him over Roberts (I do too) and every run and tackle he goes in with pace and energy. Absolute gun.

I'm hoping next year with a full uninterrupted preseason Seibs can get his structures drilled into this team and get us attacking and defending like a top 4 team. SOS looks like he could be a half for us going forward. If injuries are kind to us, I see no reason we can't challenge for a premiership next year.

It's been a miserable season but I'm definitely excited for the future.

I was actually thinking the same thing after the Titans game, I was so disappointed with that performance. I'm putting my faith in the team to turn it around but.

So we both get a point which puts up to 12th position and we might stay there if results go our way the rest of the weekend.

That leaves us exactly 3 points out of the 8, differential is no longer important, except if we're competing for 8th spot with the Warriors.

We're up against the Bulldogs next week, with the Titans the week after. Seeing as they beat Newcastle after winning the week prior, I can't see them turning up for 3 in a row. If we're any chance to make the finals we need to win next week then beat the Titans the week after.

If results go our way in the next 2 rounds, we could see ourselves in the 8 then it's up to us to stay in there.

Macca needs to go. If he's going to stay he should only play the first 30.
The season isn't over. If we keep winning we will make the eight. Maths says so!
