POST GAME Round 19 - Broncos vs Panthers

Weird that we seemed to fall asleep when the refs started blowing random penalties. You can pinpoint exactly when a catch-up penalty will be blown every game.
I totally agree. That 'penalty' against Jimmy for using his cheast on their fullback was the biggest act of stupidity by a ref this year.

Our major weakness is our middle and our ruck. Any running dummy half tears us shed, just like Smith did. I feel if this isn't tidied up soon then Cook and the Souths will tear us up.

THIS.

While we certainly pressured the Panthers in the 1st half it wasn't because of bone crunching defence and fast ruck speed in attack and defence, it was because our attack - mainly the backline, fired (at long last) and the Panthers just couldn't get it together.

As soon as they did get it together in the 2nd half, coinciding with Peachey's appearance, and they started running at us at speed with support, they walked through a heap of holes our slow reacting defence opened, and poor tackling technique made it even easier to get through our line.

A team like Souths would have carved us up on that defensive performance in the 2nd half. Cooke would have had a field day running through that flimsy ruck.

Soo good to end the panthers season last and this year
**** you Gould and Hook

If the Warriors lose by more than five we jump back into seventh.

I don’t get to go to games very often and today was the first since we beat the Panthers at the last minute at Suncorp in 2016.
Today was my sons 10 birthday so when we saw a couple of months ago that Broncos were playing Panthers (my brides team) on his birthday we thought we must go.
I watch the Panthers most weeks and thought we might be in trouble and they might spoil my boys birthday trip and finally put a smile on my wife’s face (she has never seen them win live in 15 years! She’s cursed)
Well it worked out to be a fkn brilliant game to go see. You don’t get to see the boys score 50 very often and my boys smile lit up Suncorp. The mrs wasn’t too upset as she’s used to seeing them lose live and our sons smile made it worth it.
Great night out at Suncorp!!

It's scary to think about how good Lodge will be in a year or two's time, and he's already one of the form props in the comp. Obviously TPJ gets all the attention, and for good reason, but Lodge has been fantastic. I thought Offa was extremely solid starting as well.

End their season? They're ahead of us lol
No team in history has conceded 50 points in a game during the regular season and then gone on to win the premiership, apparently. That's what the reference was concerning.

That’s a big call, there’s been quite a few of those this year, think Slater’s non-drop goal drop drop kick try and the Roosters knock on try just from last week.

1: lodge & TPJ are gonna be real good
2: Roberts might be over his injury? he blitzed everyone in the race for that ball
3: hard (basically impossible) to deny that square up penalties are a thing in the nrl

The comp must be close. Fans like close comps, right?

Good win. Well done. Gee the Broncos have some ripping young talent coming through. A lot has been said about the forwards but some of the outside backs coming through look pretty good too.

As for falling off the pace in the 2nd half, yes it is not acceptable, and we realllllly need to get this cue in the rack shit sorted, but at least one of those tries you can put right at the feet of Kahu. He can't defend worth shit, and with the quality players we've got up his ass, and Bird struggling to even find a position in the side, he really needs to get it sorted and fast.

Which try was Kahu’s fault?

Our ruck speed is hurting us. We are slow to play the ball and too quick to get off or not good enough at rolling players over.
When we finally do hold down a bit it looks really slow and we concede a penalty.

Penrith went to sleep on us all night but because they do it all the time it looks normal. It's been a problem since 2015.

The reason we get penalised so much for being to slow in the ruck is we very rarely win the first contact, then we don’t know how to wrestle to get opposition attackers in the right position.

I’d say opposition forwards “find their front” more often than not against us, earning them the right to a quick play the ball. If we can win that first contact and stop their momentum at the line it makes it a hell of a lot easier to get them on their back and earn a few more seconds in the ruck.
