Two interesting matches to kick the round off.

Cows vs Sharks is basically sudden death for Cronulla. They cannot afford to lose a game from here on out and while I believe their chances of premiership glory are long gone, I'd imagine they'll treat this game as a must win. Meanwhile, Cowboys need this win to stay in touch and build momentum for a finals charge. They haven't won in Sydney in a long time but with JT back, Moga in for Tate (which could be a blessing in disguise) I'll be very interested to see how they perform from here on out.

If I had a choice between this and the latter game, I'd probably pick Eels v Souths. Both teams will have a point to prove after last start and I'll be interested to see which side comes out on top. I'm leaning towards Souths because in terms of rosters, they'd be a Top 4 side in my book but the Eels have the form player of the game right now in Hayne and his form is so good that it's infectious. I enjoy watching players like him play at full flight and hope we see a great clash between him and GI.

Great footy right there.

Sweet switch play saw Morgan put Lui through under the posts only for Wade to come up with a sweet try-saving tackle.

Cows with another set, should score here.

Cows earn a penalty and will take a shot at goal.

Will be 18-12 with 50 or so gone.

Apparently Keary is on for Adam Reynolds. Wonder what that says about Reynolds' future.

Cowboys kick clear.

30-12

Nice try from Morgan earlier. Looked to be tackled well short of the line but kept his upper body stationary and wriggled his way free to plant the ball under the posts. He's got to be a contender for the biggest surprise packet in 2014. I'll put my hand up, I thought his selection at fullback was odd.

And the Fingerbangers future!! ****

What did you guys make of the JT try just then?

From my understanding, it shouldn't have been given but then I've never been a fan of the rule to begin with.

The rule is stupid. It was a one on one strip.

Hate to say it but I agree with Hadley. It's always been the rule that even if the first tackler drops off, he still counts and a second tackler can't then come in and strip.

Even worse that the original decision was No Try and they overturned it.

Video ref was correct. It wasn't a two-man tackle, the original tackle was broken, so Thurston did strip it one-on-one. For "one tackler to drop off", it means two defenders need to have been touching the runner simultaneously. Which wasn't the case. Hadley's confusion at that concept confirms the dunce that he is. Think of it like this, if someone broke a tackle, went through the line, and then runs 20 metres before the fullback strips it by himself, that's not a 2-man strip.

Lichaa is a going to be a good player, take note Supercoaches.

Good support from Robson and Gordon to score that try.

Those were my thoughts but I thought it was one of those silly rules the NRL had yet to ammend.

Hope that's the NRL's interpretation too, hope somebody can keep track of it for me on Monday.

Has it changed in the last few years? It used to be that the fact the first tackler drops off is irrelevant.
This from Sterlo back in 2010.
Any rule that penalises a player for doing his job is a bad one.

Any rule that consistently frustrates fans and players alike, is a bad one.

That is why for season 2011 there must be an alteration to the current stripping rule.

Every weekend there are decisions made in this area that change the course of matches and, in many cases, determine the actual result. Too many of them are the harshest of calls on defenders with not enough emphasis placed on the responsibility of the ball carrier.

At the moment a tackler is allowed to “steal” the football if he is in a one-on-one situation with the man in possession. If another defender becomes involved and makes any contact then any action to strip the ball becomes illegal.

The first absurdity that must be discarded is when one of these players loses significant contact with the ball carrier.

Logic says that if a tackler drops off or is playing no real role in completing the tackle then he should not be acknowledged as still being involved.

At the moment he is counted, despite the fact he may not even be holding the attacker or has the merest of grasps. There is no way he should be deemed to be having an influence once he ceases to be part of the hands-on action.

We saw a perfect example last weekend when Parramatta’s Matt Keating was penalised for a “two man” steal on the Tigers' Chris Heighington.

Early in the crucial clash the busy back-rower hit the ball up, brushing past Justin Horo before being confronted by Keating. In the head-on confrontation the ball was dislodged by the Eels hooker who was penalised because of the ridiculous notion that Horo was still part of the tackle.

Stupid, I know, but there you go.

It made perfect sense to me.

The first player made contact with Graham before Thurston was involved in the tackle, therefore the rule in which "1 player dropped off from a 2 man tackle" becomes irrelevant, because it was a 1 man tackle at the time he dropped off.

In effect it was a missed 1 on 1 tackle, followed by a 1 on 1 strip. Try.

Ah yes, but that's common sense. There's no room for that where refs decisions are concerned...

Sandow you are a dumb shit. Can't help himself, can he.

I was actually going to post about his penchant for kicking over the sidelines. There are occasions where it is an okay tactic, but these days you're better off giving the opposition the ball with their forwards off-side and no time for a breather. Sideline kicks just seem an easy, lazy option for him.

Toutai really hurt Parramatta tonight.

To bomb that try and hand one to Turner is pretty disgraceful. Reckon Sio would have to come in.
