Melbourne may be at their best through the whole season but this year, even if teams lift for the finals, Melbourne is just already a few levels above everyone else. In fact, if they don't win it this year, it will be a massive fail for them (provided they do not get injuries between now and the end of the year) because they are so far ahead of everyone else.

I don't think Melbourne necessarily plays at their best the whole time. It's just that they still play like a 7/10 game when at their worst, whereas other teams can drop to a 3 or 4 or whatever. They are just consistent.
