POST GAME Round 22 - Dragons vs Broncos

I actually thought Fittler made an interesting point last night.

He said perhaps the Broncos were going left a lot to tire out Marshall.

Perhaps it was done on purpose to tire him out, and because the left side is our stronger side.

A fatigued Marshall is a useless Marshall.

I don't know if that was the plan but it certainly worked. Between all the traffic going his way and Blair smacking him all night, Benji turned in a pretty poor performance.

Any news on Gillet.? He looked like he was having real problems with that left shoulder for a few sets. I was surprised he didn't come off earlier actually. If I it is shoulder.......gulp!

It is his shoulder from what I'm reading, and maybe I'm imagining it, but after he came off, our right hand side suddenly started to open right up, which made those last 10 minutes heart stopping (for me at least).

Gillett's contribution to our side cannot be underestimated defensively in particular

No one charged from this game.

Good, would have been a disgrace otherwise.

I might be wrong, but I don't think anyone has said that they expect us to win the GF, or any final or beat the Storm, Sharks or Cronulla on the basis of that performance. If somebody did, then your comments are spot on. What I understand most people have said is that there are signs of improvement last night from how bad we have been.

If we are still playing that way in 4 weeks time, then we will most likely be cannon fodder, but I am hoping that will not be the case.

So you'll wait 4 more rounds to make the call. Very patient of you. Me on the other hand I like to think a little bit more ahead and gauge our performances vs those of the front runners. For me being pushed to the buzzer by one of the worst sides in the Comp (who were missing their best player) to competing against the top 3 in as little as 4 weeks is a bit of a long shot.

The team has potential, we saw it last year and for the first 10 rounds of this year but for any number of reasons it took a turn for the worst starting at the Cronulla game but most would agree things weren't right from round 1 even with the wins.

By all means continue to have hope but the divide between us and the top 3 is too steep a hill to climb this close to the finals.

There's 4 more rounds of football for us to improve and relearn to play football at a level that will trouble the top 3. If you really want to be realistic than at least say all you wanted too see was a broncos win, not an improved performance that showed we are capable of competing for this years title.

You don't care about neutrals so when the bronco's aren't playing Vs the Sharks/Cowboys/Storm you don't watch their games? I do and a lot of other people here do and we got some hard truths for you boy, those 'improvements' that helped you sleep soundly last night were nothing to get excited bout. We needed to see a polished dominant performance from this playing group because they are fast running out of time to get it right, put me in the group of people who think they already have.

I think most people are resigned to the fact that we will not be competing this year. I wanted to see improvements and I saw them. I never said I wanted to see a dominate performance or a performance that would worry the top 3 teams because I knew that wasn't possible. I wanted the team to show that they actual give a **** and they did.

As for the neutrals I don't know what the **** you are talking about. I was quite clear when I said I don't care what other fans think, none of that has anything to do with what you just said.

Pick up your toys and dry your eyes, boy.

So long as we make the finals..Anything can happen on the day. We showed that when we flogged the Roosters in the semis last year. Champions rise on big occasions.I'd hate to be watching semi final footy while we are having mad Monday!

So they improved their completion rate and showed a bit more attitude in defence against the dragons, t h e d r a g o n s. Take it and run with it I suppose.

We were never going to go from the worst side in the comp to the best in 1 week, but we did improve. The halves controlled the game better than they have for a long time, the forwards aimed up and as a group they defended better. Bennett won't be happy with the last 20 minutes but overall there was a visible improvement in a lot of areas. Form can't just return it needs to be built and then we might gain some momentum. Happy to get the win and hope we can build on that and improve again next week. A more clinical game against the Eels at home will do wonders, just hope that we've had our injuries now for the season and we can field our best 17 from now on.

It's really hard to say if we improved against a woeful side with no creativity and in that weather. Listening to Bennett in the presser the words were positive but the tone was negative. He convinced no one that he believed what he was saying.

Ran better lines, rookies like Opacic making big plays, dominant kicking game from Hunt... Yeah no improvement.

Much improvement, but still a long way to go.

I still can't work out why we died with the ball on the 5th tackle when our kickers were in posession

Repeat sets boys.... build pressure.

Yeah all that improvement materialised into being saved by the buzzer against the dragons.
