While we're patting people on the back - I think it's worth noting that our resident League expert Ari Gold stuck his neck out and predicted that the Raiders would beat the Eels. Well in mate. And with that game, we say goodbye to the Raiders & the Eels. Tale of two teams really. Nothing was really expected out of either team but one team was well and truly alive in the competition until the final round of footy. The other was gone a long time ago. It's been a really tough season for the Raiders. Was always going to be with Milford announcing his departure before a ball was ever kicked - to lose your best player in those sort of circumstances is just gut-wrenching. However, it seemed like the Raiders were prepared to compound that error by sticking to the structures which have held them back for so long. All the issues that have been evident over the past few seasons were all on show yet Ricky just stuck with those structures until injuries forced his hand. I'm not sure if there are many positives to take out of this season - Croker I suppose did well to top the point-scorers list and we saw some nice moments from players like Vaughan, Lee, Fensom but heading into Season 2015, it appears they'll be back to square one. I've got to say, the Eels were one of my favourite teams to watch. I just liked the shape they played with and the way they were able to shift the ball with ball-playing backrows and speedy backs. Even Sandow had his moments and it was fun to see him experiment with his running and kicking game. I think there were a lot of good signs moving forward, they just have to refine their play to ensure they get the most out of the talent because the talent is most certainly there.
