Russell Crowe to join the footy show.

Russell Crowe has momentarily left Hollywood behind - to make his 2009 TV debut as a panellist on The Footy Show.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs co-owner joins the newly formed three-host panel of Paul "Fatty" Vautin, Andrew Voss and Matthew Johns to be grilled on all things rugby league at the launch of the revamped format next Thursday.

Channel 9 hopes the makeover will boost ratings following a major viewer slump last year.

"Russell Crowe is on the first week ... I hear he has asked for Fatty's and my books so he could read up on us and fire off some questions at us as well," Johns said. "It should be interesting."

Who else thinks this is LOLZ worthy?

No not really.... Rusty is an excellent public speaker so at least he won't sound like a bogan. And hes also a fan of the game who happens to make lots of money and bought a footy club. He shoots from the hip and job security isn't an issue for him so expect him to ask questions others have been to scared too.

I will watch the show, hopefully this time I won't turn it off like previous years.

I know it has a lot of critics on here, but i think the show is shaping up to be rather decent this year.

Vossy will provide a fresh new angle and despite what others say i think Fatty is a champion bloke. If only Sterlo was still there!

Good points mate. He's an excellent actor. I'm just not too sure how good he'd be at discussing footy, either way he couldn't be worse than harragon.

So hopefully he makes it more interesting, i'll be watching the footy show anyway.

Its obvious Vossy doesnt really have the panel/ interview thing down yet but Russ just keeps cutting him down and has no time for him what so ever.

Sent a message out to all NRL players to basically pull their heads in, realise they can have a good time without getting wasted and at the moment the way we are going, we won't be sitting here in 10 years time eagerly awaiting the start of the season in less than 24 hours.

To be honest I don't think rusty hates Vossy at all. I think it is more of familiarity brings contempt. icon_thumbs_u Considering Vossy is a souths man through and through I very much so doubt that Russ hates him. I would probably say it was Vossy who got Russ on the FS to begin with.

What made the original Footy Show enjoyable to watch was the obvious tension between the hosts.

I saw the last 25 mins or so. Vossy's too smart to be genuinely put down. I call a grab for ratings.
