Sandor Earl charged with peptide use and trafficking

Definitely an education thing, I agree Dexter. It should be drummed into every single player's head - if you get treatment advice from anyone other than the club doctor, you MUST get it approved in writing by the club doctor before proceeding.

That still won't totally protect you from a club doctor who doesn't know all the banned substances, but you'd hope the NRL club doctors are up to speed on it!

As for the trafficking charge, if it's literally because he picked up a box of meds from Mascot and drove them to the clinic in Penrith or Parramatta wherever it was that he got treated, that's fucked.

I think Gordie was off base with his comments. Firstly, if you trust your doctor why would you say "no, don't give me that medication". You might ask more about it, but you wouldn't say no if you trusted your doctor...which Sandor Earl clearly did. You can't tell by looking at medicine whether it's good or not - unlike weetbix and coco pops.

And yes, some medication makes you feel unwell.

And the other factor here is Sandor Earl was 20 years old. Probably hadn't been treated for many serious injuries so wouldn't know what's "normal" treatment. I think it's really unfortunate what's happened to him. I don't sense at all that he knew what was going on was dodgy, but he has to pay the price for it. Rules is rules. And I didn't think he was trying to feel sorry for himself, he was just stating the facts.

Stephen Dank meanwhile is an absolute bottom feeding piece of shit. Which is evidenced by the fact he was at Danny Weidler's house. Weidler is the world's biggest **** when it comes to sports journalism. And I say without any guilt that if Weidler was hit by a bus I'd fucking throw a party.

Gun post.

I thought Earl came across fairly well and I don't believe it occured to him that something illegal was going on (although when you're going to the doctors and have to bring your own stuff to be injected with surely that sets off some alarm bells). I didn't get to watch the entire thing, stopped at the first ad but I have it recorded and will watch the rest later today. Something that really stood out for me were the bills. Charged to the Panthers football club. Nobody at the club thought to question the off site treatment he was getting? Even if they did, the didn't feel it warranted further investigation? Namely what he was being injected with? Suss as IMO.

And the thing I keep reflecting on...Earl was a 20yo footballer. He'd just made first grade. A whole lot of stuff about first grade would've seemed different to what he was used to. eg, as a junior he'd have had to go and pay his own medical bills (or his mum would) etc. Now suddenly it's all taken care of.

He'd be getting legitimate treatments he'd never heard of before. How's he supposed to tell what's legit from what's not?

And as you say, if the club is just paying it, then you could really forgive him for just thinking it must be OK.

I feel for him because I think processes completely let him down.

Brohman commented on this straight after the interview - did the Panthers even pay them? The pic they showed of them had 'overdue account' stamped on them. For all we know the Panthers did question it, were given a vague response (or were referred to Dank to discuss what it was for) and Dank slunk off in to the night. Possibly this may have been one of the catalysts for the Panthers to cut ties with him - him telling the clinic to bill the club, the club having no knowledge, questioning his business practises (let alone methods) etc.

Why isn't there a lot of heat on Dank?

Why is ASADA taking so long to sort this out?

The entire "scandal" from top to bottom, government to clubs and players is a fucking joke, and an absolute disgrace.

Cheers. Like I said, I didn't see the whole thing. If your assumption is correct though, you'd think the Panthers would then approach Earl and advise him not to see Dank anymore.

As you'll see with the interview (geez, watch it already!), Earl said that his contact with Dank petered off during the course of injections, and then when Dank went to Melbourne there was no further contact. So perhaps the Panthers told Dank to take a hike instead of Earl (otherwise they'd have to admit to Earl that it was dodgy???).

I'm surprised too. He's refusing to be interviewed, but I thought ASADA had been given powers that they could fine him (in the $'000s per day?) until he relented and succumbed to questioning. But technically he's done nothing illegal - and he had no qualifications (as far as I know) that they can strip from him anyway. So without being fined, why wouldn't he just lay low? TBH he can't be working alone, he can't have been solely responsible for the research and development. That takes a dedicated team with lots of dollars. Which is where the 'organised crime' comes in to it. I'm sure he's just a figurehead, a contact within a network under the guise of a sports scientist, who-can be the seemingly legit face to liaise with professional organisations or sportspeople. So, expanding on that, maybe he's getting pressure from elsewhere to keep his mouth shut?

Panther's response, also in regards to paying for the invoices explained (as well as the 'overdue' status):

Penrith Panthers CEO Warren Wilson hits back at claims by former player Sandor Earl | News.com.au

PENRITH Panthers chief executive Warren Wilson has fired back at disgraced NRL star Sandor Earl's claims the club was aware he was receiving special peptide injections as recommended by controversial sports scientist Stephen Dank.

Wilson told mX on Friday morning the club disputes Earl's version of events, but admitted it was forced to make significant changes to the supervision of its medical program since the Australian Crime Commission's Drugs in Sport report landed in February, where all player treatment of any kind must first be signed off on by the club doctor.
This was not the case in 2011 when Earl sought special peptide injections from an injury clinic in Cabramatta for which the club paid $1160 in medical invoices.
Wilson said it is impossible for a club to know what players are doing every moment of every day.
"I can only tell you what happened and what we've done going forward, but I do have a problem where a bloke says we snuck out and we weren't going to tell anyone and then a couple of breaths later says: 'They should have known.'
"He said last night Dank had said to him, 'Don't tell anybody and let's take this off somewhere else.' Later on he says the club should have known. Well, hang on a minute, how would the club know if all of this was taken away (from the club) and you hadn't said anything?

"Those invoices were for consultation with a registered doctor. They were for injections by a registered doctor.
"They were six months old because there was a cash crisis at Penrith. They came across to the main office and they were put through Medicare. On a reasonable person test, there is nothing wrong with those invoices.
"The greatest problem with the entire system, not just at Penrith, but with all clubs, is that you can only control them when they're under your control. What people do in their own time, you can't control.
"So we've put in place a whole number of systems and practices now that will go a long way to prevent anything like this happening. I will never, ever give anyone 100 per cent assurance because the world doesn't work like that.''
Wilson said he could not comment on whether the club will consider legal action against Earl, but is keeping a dossier of all statements made against it.

[h=3]NAIVE SANDOR EARL PAYING THE PRICE1:20[/h]

Disgraced NRL player Sandor Earl says he was naive to trust controversial sport scientist Stephen Dank.

Dank has repeatedly denied ever giving athletes banned substances.

So Penriff think who should be called Slandor Earl?

Sorry

No surprise Penriff defending themselves. It wouldn't surprise me if neither they nor Earl knowingly did anything wrong or negligent. And as he pointed out, they've made amendments to policies and procedures to try and prevent a repeat. Good on them, that's about all they can realistically do.

But really just applying those new processes is a concession that their processes at the time let Earl down, so I don't think there's any grounds to sue. If anyone does, it'd probably be Earl, but I doubt he's even going to do that.

So, expanding on that, maybe he's getting pressure from elsewhere to keep his mouth shut?

Do you remember the story about the Sharks conditioner, Trent Elkin, when he quit the club after this ASADA shit fight exploded.....?

Said he was paid a visit at his home one night from Paul Gallen.

Maybe Gallen knows where Danks lives too.

Personally I wouldn't be quoting stories from "James Hooper" as anything other than drivel. The bloke is a cocksmoker of the highest order.

I just hope that out of all this, Dank, Gallen, and Greg Bird end up in a cell together.

I'll settle for banned for life though.
