NEWS Sleepy Joe is back in Brisbane. And this time it's personal.

Tigers interchange specialist Sleepy Joe Ofahenghaue wants us to to know he's in a happier place, as his new club faces his old club today:

“The best thing about Brisbane is they are straight forward with their contracts generally. When Wayne was there it was a lot easier to know where you were going and if you were going to stay. With Siebs re-signing us when Kevvie came we obviously weren’t part of his plans. It hurts as footy player. As a footy player you want to be wanted by your club and coach."

“To hear him say you’re not wanted here and to look at other places, it hurt. I’m a grown man and I took it on the chin.”

“It was a one-on-one conversation. He said ‘what do you want to do Joffa’. He said he heard stories about me wanting to leave. I told him it was all fake. He said ‘well if you have an option out there, I think it’s best for you to look elsewhere’. I was shocked and hurt. I had awesome players that always told me that it’s not always going to be like this. Darius always gave me good advice about his experience and leaving clubs. It all made sense in the end. If you don’t deliver they are going to have to move you on and that’s what happened."

Highs and lows

“I got to experience the highs at Brisbane but last year was one of my lowest times. I’m grateful for what the club did for me Luckily for me the Tigers needed another prop.”

“I unfollowed the Broncos, NRL, Fox because I wanted to refresh myself. I didn’t want to see the footy. Some fans thought I unfollowed the Broncos during the time I was leaving. But I just wanted to refresh my mind and I was sick of footy. I had just had the worst year of my career.”

Did play some patches of good footy at Brisbane and was deserving of one of his stints in Origin (lacerating his leg I believe), but by and large, never delivered on his potential.

Also seems like a likeable bloke who deserves some good luck after the hell he and his partner have been through, but really just an underwhelming first grader with poor hands and even worse discipline, both on and off the field.

Says me, who is terrible at pretty much every sport I’ve ever tried.

"Life was better under bennett"

Hahaha news flash! Dropped player bad mouths coach who finally, and deservedly, got rid of him. Prerefs coach that debuted him and didn't drop him! What a revelation!

Seems like a decent bloke. Hope he does well (not against us though).

Might be 'old coach, highly revered and considered one of the greatest was straight up, honest and honourable was better than a rookie that delivered a wooden spoon'.

I know which version is closest to the truth.

It did. They were interpreting the interview as Joe saying there was more contract clarity under Bennett. It's a reasonable point with all the horse trading of contracted players going on right now, and echoes what Lodge, Oates and TPJ have been saying. I'm going to allow it.

But Bennett had nothing to do with contracts. It was all Louise I tells ya.
It's funny that when it's a shocking contract (e.g. boyd) the same people sing from the rooftops that he doesn't have much say in the contracts. Yet when a player talks about him being great with his honesty regarding contracts they sing from the rooftops about him again haha... so which is it? Is he lying and therefore not straight up with the player? Or is he telling the truth and he is a very large part of why our salary cap is so fucked (e.g. Newcastle and dragons before us, but hey, that's Just a coincidence)?...

So you're saying he has a large say in contracts? Because he would need be is he was telling the players where he and the club stands regarding his contract you would think?

But I thought the salary cap position we find ourselves in has noth ikng to do with him (e.g. like Newcastle and dragons but that's Just a coincidence, and Payne Haas was all him).... I like how all the defensive Bennett fans (I said nothing bad about him but still get this defensive response lol) pick and choose his level of involvement based on absolutely no evidence and how good a mov3 it was in hindsight.. ffs, we don't want him back, get over it

I said nothing bad about Bennett. Why so defensive. And did Walter's win a spoon with us, can you point out what year that was in please, thanks.

He wasn’t playing like a complete fucking potato salad when Bennett was coaching tho.

Yeah but who cares. It would be a sad state of the competition if it were full of players that only put in for wayne Bennett. There are other coaches and most players have to play under them. Says more about the attitude of the players than the coach imo.

I'd trade this big idiot back for Isaako at this point
