Smith the X-factor - Lockyer suggest a Roving role.

What's Tim Smiths defence like??? He is not a tiny halfback so maybe he can come on and play a Fitler type roll at lock???

His defense was the worst part of his game by a mile at the Eels.

I don't know if the roving role is really needed - which is why RL has a big problem with 2nd tier play makers at a club... If you're good enough you want to be in the 6 or 7.

Hence when one goes for the season you're screwed.

Back on track - I'd rather use Hunt because I have a feeling another club will offer T. Smith an opportunity sooner or later and he will take it. (rightly so)

If Smith is used as the Roving player i really think he will stay and repay the faith. Come on Lockyer is gonna retire at any time it could be this yr could be next could be 2012 noone knows and i dont think even Locky does but we all know its comming. Round 1 he could go down injured and retire there and then.

Smith will know that and he will wanna be the guy who takes over for Locky. The biggest boots in the NRL over the next few years to fill will be the ones Locky has on right now. Any player would give a nut to be the guy who fills those boots.

The Broncos need to decide if they want to keep Hunt or Smith as the long-term Lockyer replacement, because they simply will not be able to keep them both. Whichever one they decide is the long-term future then needs to be given every opportunity from the start of this season - if they dither around on this, chances are we will keep neither. Like Coxy, at this stage my preference is for Hunt - but I wait to see what the first couple of months of the season brings.
