So are you a supporter or a fan?

So what’s the difference between the 2. Is a supporter someone who buys as much team related stuff they can, buy season tickets and club memberships? And if they don't does that make them any less of a supporter than those that do and just makes them a fan of the club/team, having said that, do you have to be a supporter of the club to be a fan/supporter of the team?

Deep huh :) stuff you think about while watching chooseday night footy while feeding a baby.

IMO a supporter is someone who contributes financially to the club i.e buy a jersey, a hat maybe even support a charity or a sponsor of the team. I don't think you have to buy everything and break the bank going to every game. But I also think that if you support any team you should at least be a member of the leagues club. And try and visit it for dinner/drinks once a year. Healthy club, healthy team. Plus it costs **** all.

Me... I'm a supporter of the Mighty Brisbane Broncos. And a fan of everything else that is the greatest game of all: Rugby League.

I agree. A supporter to me is a member. They are the ones who buy ticketed or non ticketed memberships. They try to attend as many games as they can a year, home and away. While buying merchandise from the Official Store and attending various club events throughout the year to make sure they are giving back their money to their club.

A fan is someone who just says they go for a team. They may have merchandise and wear it around and say they are loyal as anything. However, they have never attended a game in years and have never thought about becoming a member.

That is why I am a Rabbitohs Supporter and proud season ticket holder who hasn't missed a Rabbitohs game in NSW/ACT this year, and pretty much for the last 6 years.

I am however just a NSW fan. Though I am looking at becoming a member of the NSW Fogs and Men of League Foundation to show my support to those non Rabbitohs causes.

So I'm not a supporter of the Broncos because I don't have a membership?

Not having that.

I am a supporter, I am getting Membership next season. Love the Broncos.

Where did I say you should have a membership to the club to be a 'supporter'

I think you will find I said
you should at least be a memeber of the leagues club

I agree Rock, you know your a supporter by the way you feel after a lose or a win. I'll never forget the feeling of that lose against the Storm in 2008.

I'm a supporter... this is my second year having a season membership

No doubt, a lot of club members would do so because they frequent the club lots (pokies) and join to take advantage of the give aways and member draws etc etc.

I'm not saying you have to be a member of the leagues club or have to be a season member of any sort to be a supporter. But if you financially contribute i.e go to games buy merchandise and so on then that’s supporting your team as opposed to someone who doesn't.

makes abit of sense too.

I wish to defend my stance on "a supporter needs to be a member", which seems to have offended a few people. Frankly this is only from my POV as a Rabbitohs supporter and would obviously vary from team to team and does not approach on a Brisbane supporter and more so a NSW Brisbane supporter.

For a team like the Rabbitohs who have had some hard times in the last 20 year. The supporters were the ones turning up during the period after being re-instated into the comp. The same faces I saw every week in the 6 - 10k crowds at home and away games, knowing we probably were going to get smashed and put on a poor performance, but were there in whatever conditions. Then most headed back to the Leagues Club for the after match function to celebrate or drown our surrows and say "we will get them next week, you'll see".

Since Russell and Peter took over, my stance has changed to members being the true supporters. This is a very AFL mindset, that I feel we need to embrace. Not just the Rabbitohs but the NRL. Membership should be the basic requirement to show you are a true supporter, to help improve the clubs bottom line and the future stablility of your team, something that the Broncos are not too worried.

Too many Sydney teams are surviving on league's club and NRL hand outs and still making huge loses. If they just had a few more fans who turned over their money to the club at $50 - $100 for non ticketed membership would greatly increase that clubs books and by their actions become true supporters.

While the Broncos do have a very different market to the Sydney based teams and their fans (NSW fans more so) I understand the situation that some of you guys do have.

Rocky - I know you are a supporter. The reason being you have attended a shit load of games, took/made flags, took/made banners, done stuff for the clubs website, did so much effort on this forum and done so much more than your "typical" fan. You also grabbed the membership package that was actually a benefit for out of state fans, when it was released.

Basically to sum it up. I feel a fan is someone who says they support their team but never act upon it - a bit more than just buying merchandise and wearing it after a win.

A supporter is someone who does act on the above - whether that be attending games a few a year atleast, memberships etc.

Hopefully that clears things up.

Yep, it still haunts me. I still remember the excitement with 1 minute to go when I knew we'd be playing the Sharks the following week, and then it all came crashing down. Horrible.[/quote:tkpyf8ti]

That night will be forever etched into my memory. Sitting at One World sport in Parramatta with everyone on our side for 79 minutes then it all came crashing to pieces.

Lockyer's face and reaction said it all. I really did almost cry that night. Never ever seen Locky like that [icon_frown

Well, I don't have a membership, but I am a supporter, I own some gear, I've been to a handful of games (mostly cause Robina is lyke, agez away and that..) but, I would consider myself a supporter.

I am a Broncos supporter, NRL fan.

There are many reasons to support this - and most people here know this. I think one of my biggest ones is my Broncos licence plates. It pretty much subjects me to open critisism/opinions of the team at any time of year from any member of the public that sees it. People that know me know that I HATE talking to randoms at best - so If I'm ready enough to cop that whether we're winning or losing, that's support for me.

And BOOOOO whoever brought up that sad day in 2008. I was literally sitting about 20 metres back from that line. Most depressing moment in footy for me ever. It left my poor children confused as to why all of a sudden Mummy went in to shock and couldn't talk..... or move.... or breathe. Lol. They were counting down and had no idea we had actually lost until they looked around them after the full time siren.

I don't give a **** what word you use. I love the Broncos. Simple as that.
