Roosters half-back Mitchell Pearce has described calls from former NSW coach Ricky Stuart to install him as the Blues State of Origin captain 'embarrassing and outrageous'.

Stuart used his Sunday newspaper column to talk up the 20-year-old as the man to lead NSW as the Blues look to prevent a fifth successive series defeat.

The push to return Pearce to the NSW side after a two-year absence will gain further momentum after his stand-out performance in the Roosters' 44-32 thumping of Wests Tigers on Sunday, but the No. 7 wants nothing to with the captaincy talk

"How embarrassing. I just laughed about it," he said of Stuart's article.

"I take it as a compliment that he obviously thinks I've been going all right but that's outrageous - I don't know where that came from."

"I'd be happy to be somewhere in the 17 if my form's even good enough to be doing that let alone any of that other stuff."

"I found it a bit of a laugh but I'll take it as a compliment from Ricky. Obviously he thinks I've been going all right but I don't think I'm going that good."

Roosters coach Brian Smith has been desperate to keep a lid on the hype surrounding Pearce, suggesting he needs a good season behind him before being considered for Origin in 2011.

I can't work out if Ricky is actually being serious. I think it is ludicrous to suggest that the NSW captain should be a player that hasn't been in the team for 2 years (in fact i think he has only played 2 matches) and isn't even a certainty to make the team this year

Mortimer, Peace, Wallace, Mullen.

Who will it be this year?

Mortimer seems to be the bandwagon ATM, although he is playing 5/8. Since Gidley was the skipper last year, i think he could be a good chance to be in the halves, since we all know that Hayne will be the fullback

Hopefully not Wallace and hopefully Locky retires so we can keep our halves combination during origin :D

Maybe Jarryd Hayne captain. He's so influential.

There was talk in the paper yesterday about Hindmarsh being in the team and named captain, but apparently he's thinking about retiring from rep footy. If he was to be in the team, I can't think of any other option that NSW would have.

No, Hayne will be CEO of the new independent commission so he won't have time.

I think Sticky is angling for an insanity defence. Not for anything specific but just in case he ever goes to trial for something then he can pull out that article.

Pearce is terrible. He's being made to look better than he is because Carney is making up for all his inadequacies. I'd play Todd Payton at halfback for NSW before I'd play Pearce

can someone do a pick of Pearce with an Afro please. The title does say Fro Pearce and while i forgive Foordy for a typo i now can't stop picturing Pearce with an Afro.

Ricky Stuart needs to get off the crack pipe

NB This is merely a saying - I am not accusing Ricky Stuart of doing crack or any other type of drugs.

Were you meant to say something?

Hopefully they keep Gidley as captain he always plays well for QLD the bloody tard.

Maybe he's been reading this forum and saw a call for Kemp to be captain and thought WTF lets throw it out there just to generate some football talk eusa_think

1 Hayne

6 Carney
7 Wallace

9 Ennis

11 Hindmarsh (c)

14 Gidley

900 Pearce
IMO.

Like I told the Grandstand team on the weekend, all of Qld hopes that media Darling Pearce continues to be picked for NSW.

At least the chances of Wallace getting picked for NSW again in a hurry seem remote, which can only be a good thing for the Broncos
