We all know Suncorp Stadium atmosphere is terrible. For the best team in the world playing in the best Rugby League stadium in the world, with the highest attendance in the league, it's pretty ridiculous.

Rugby League fans come across as "too cool" to sing songs about their team, besides of course the guys in the bottom corner who pretty much go to games to drink and sing.

I apologise to our friend on the forum, @Rally Towel, however (ear muffs for this one, RT), the Rally Towel was a massive failure.

I think for something to catch on, something needs to be started by the ground announcer.

Italian Football team, Juventus do this when a goal is scored (watch until about 1:20):

They use the same song as we do when we score a try. So my thought is, that the ground announcer can announce to people thats how we will be doing things and then when the time comes he can be like "try for the broncos scored by number 6, Anthony..." and the crowd all yells "MILFORD!" and they do it 3 times and then the music kicks in and hopefully we can get everyone doing the da, da na da, da na da etc.

They also do this for pre-match announcements:

I noticed tonight that WSW do the same (damn Mitch Nichols), it seems like it would be pretty easy to get going, and would be cool to get some kind of chant going, I guess. Or is this still too much for us?

I went to an A-League finals game last year at Suncorp.

The attendance was only about 25k I think, but when kick off happened and they were doing the Brisbane chant they always do, I could literally feel the vibration through the ground and it was deafening.

The Fortress has been a complete failure, IMO.

Even when the guys have the mic on them, I can barely hear them.. And their songs are just stolen from the EPL. Quite a few of them can't even get the lyrics for the team song right.

I think the Broncos need to have a think about how they can improve the atmosphere.. But I don't think they want to. I think they think it's good enough.

To be honest, it's too family friendly.

I'm afraid it's going to stay that way until a large group of people decide to do it themselves and see if other people at the stadium follow.

I wouldn't hope for anything from the ground announcer.. The guy isn't even a Broncos fan from what I've heard.

Yep, exactly! I took a few friends to their first Broncos game (who usually go to Roar games with me) and they saw how there were heaps more people than they were used to in the stadium and my friend said to me "I can't wait to hear how much noise this crowd will make, it's going to be so loud" and I told him, "wait until kick off, you will be able to hear a pin drop, RL crowds aren't like A-League crowds" and sure enough, it was very quiet.

It's also because soccer NEEDS that excitement because not much actually happens for so long in a game. It's full of "almost moments" but league is so second to second action. . You can't really blink or you'll miss something.

To me, league just has a beautiful structure and rhythm to it. . 5 tackles then a kick. 5 tackles then a kick. Repetition. But at that moment after the 5 tackles, this action moment we get over and over, there's always "something" which happens. You anticipate and almost count down to that unpredictable moment where everything could change in a second. League. It's constant repetition builds a certain rhythm. Why the constant flowing games or "arm wrestles" are the most entertaining. They instill tension and anticipation. It's theatre!

This is why i love league and can't find myself ever engaged with union... while i can appreciate the similarities and recognize the skill sets overlap, there's just too much chaos! It's scrappy! League is actually pretty neat... The motions are all there and we become conditioned or familiar with the rhythm, therefore we can almost anticipate easier where and when the action will come.

Soccer is the complete opposite............. The ball's bounce and flow is quite predictable (unlike the shape of a footy) and there's hardly ever that moment of broken play or a line break. . Not much happens in soccer til it does - in that one second moment - the one second moment that could decide the whole game! That full 90mins all for what? the end result to be 1-0?! This reflecting: One moment vs evidently none? Crazy. (Believe me i love soccer, but this is the difference in style the two games have - in one, you're spoilt for action, the other is a long and drawn out long con)

This is why Soccer needs a loud and rowdy atmosphere in the dips and dulls while with League, you'll get the exuberant roar at those moments ie when points are scored or big hits are made.

But Ok, I'm all for an improved crowd presence. it'd be amazing - go for it! But it's not exactly necessary and why we've seen so many failed attempts at it.

So for now, I'll let hunt and milf entertain me - and damn do they do so.

We're the broncos

I completely disagree. This is clearly just your opinion. Football doesn't "need" anything external to make it interesting. I would rather watch a 0-0 football match than a Rugby League match that doesn't involve The Broncos. I may be in the minority in Australia but Football is more entertaining that Rugby League. People don't chant at Football matches because the game is boring.

Right now, there's really no reason to go to the Broncos game, unless you're a diehard fan. Watching it on TV is a better experience.

I think the one of the reasons that it works so well in football is because it doesn't have that structure that league has. The ball can get turned over with any possession, there's so much space, there's the back and forward all up and down the field as it's not just two lines pushing against each other. It's more 'interesting' in a sense. Also because they can only have 1-0 scorelines, they tend to go more ballistic when they score as opposed to tries for us.

Also football has been around forever and their traditions are well-ingrained in the culture. You try to start anything in any other sport and it comes off looking really forced/tacky and gets derided by others as 'just copying football'

Our ground announcer sucks + the Fortress is a laughing stock. Until we have a fan-driven active support in single area with the passionate supporters who might be more inclined to be vocal but don't for fear of getting told off by the families/oldies/casuals, it won't get any better.

I have heard that our ground announcer was a Manly fan (From someone on here maybe?). He sucks, but if Broncos fans decide it's a good idea to start singing anything other than "Let's go Broncos" I will not be happy. Soccer sucks. Those "fans who use their "passion" as an excuse to act like a twat make the sport even worse. I'd rather watch paint dry or lawn bowls.

Have you ever actually watched a top lawn bowls game? ? Try the Australian premier league especially live. Pine rivers bowls Club hosts it. . Pretty great atmosphere, free, cheap booze and you'll usually always see rugby league stars invited along. Ben hannant was the league guest of honor last month.

I actually used to watch it on SBS before the Queensland Cup games back in the day

Premier League (APL) on Fox is where it's at. Better rules. It's like the T20 of lawn bowls

Do we do this before or after we rig the league and get demoted to QLD Cup? :p
