Story in the Courier Mail by Badel, saying rivals have given up and Fifita is set to extend with the Broncos on a multi-million dollar deal.

It's looking like a 2 year extension at the moment, with options in Fifita's favour.

Badel also revealed that Seibold plans for Fifita to be the spearhead on the left edge for the Broncos. (Maybe adding more fuel to my proposition of Glenn starting at lock)

I knew there had to be a catch to it.

He still isn't signed. The news apparently is the other clubs have all pulled out.

Badel says:

"Brisbane were prepared to offer a monster five-year deal but with Sydney clubs going cold the Broncos could settle for a two-year package, with option clauses, worth around $750,000 a season. A shorter-term deal would still keep Fifita at the Broncos until at least 2022, but gives the Broncos more cap flexibility as the 108kg back-rower enters the next phase of his highly promising NRL career. Souths and the Bulldogs were regarded as Brisbane’s primary threats but Bennett admits the signing of Jai Arrow and Latrell Mitchell has put the Broncos in the box seat to retain Fifita."

Bennett says:

“We won’t be signing David Fifita, we can’t afford him. We’ve signed Jai Arrow and Latrell Mitchell, so we’re happy with our roster. It’s not often a player leaves Brisbane. The lifestyle is a big factor, especially for a local kid like Dave. The trouble can be the Sydney kids who go up to Brisbane because they aren’t locals but with Fifita, he seems happy (at the Broncos), so we won’t be chasing him.”

Seibold says he wants Fifita to be the forward spearhead on Brisbane’s left edge and is confident he will not walk out on the club:

"We are very comfortable with the situation. Dave is in no rush and we are in no rush, but we want David to stay here and continue his career here. I love coaching him and have a really strong relationship with him. We are working very hard to keep him. There are strong relationships between us and Dave’s family. We know where we are at with it. There’s no pressure on the kid.”

does anyone else get the irony of this statement ...

every time in the last 12 months that Bennett has categorically ruled out signing a player; Souths literally signed that player within the next 4 weeks.

that being said, I still think he'll stay

Are the calls of him playing on the left just Badel being Badel and not realizing that he is a natural right edge forward... I didn't see it in the Seibold quotes, but has it been picked up from training runs??

Glenn has played left side his entire career and Fifi played on the left because Gillett was our mainstay on the right.

He had good games on the left and stayed there when Gillett got injured, but his first instinct on that side is to cut back in and get his left hand available to palm players off.

It's odd because Fifi is a natural right side player and TPJ (if he's intended to be a 2nd row player) is more suited to left side with his left hand carry... I think Oates played left side a fair bit as well.

Basically Mumma Fifita dragged his ass in to sign a new deal immediately after he got off the plane from Bali

Bennett also said that souffs wouldn't be signing Roberts or Latrell.
He needs the same level of warning given to Badel.

Makes really bugger all sense that Fifita would play left edge. He's a stronger right side player, but even moving that point aside:

We already have Glenn, our recently appointed Captain, who has been on our left edge for most of the last decade. He hasn't played Lock since NYC level as far as I'm aware, which was again over a decade ago.

Even if Glenn isn't a long term prospect, TPJ is probably the next edge prospect we have, but again he is generally a left edge player in the time he's spent playing on our edges.

The only link Fifita has to playing on our left edge is the fact he's had to fill in for Glenn there regularly whilst Glenn was covering our Centre vacancy last year.

This all points to Fifita playing right edge for us now and hopefully for the next decade or more.
