And now for something entirely different, the stats for the guys you named QUEENSLANDER. I've included Nate Myles, because he certainly deserves to be named amongst those names:

So this really backs up my choices
 • Gillet has missed more tackles than them all except bird and equal with watmough.
 • Gillet makes less tackles than all of them except for Lolo
 • Makes about average offloads
 • Makes less runs on average than all but 2 of them
 • About average in tackle breaks

Looks like my selections were pretty spot on, stats wise anyway

Best thing i learnt from that, Fensom hasnt missed a tackle all year. What a machine

Re: Round 5 - Broncos vs Eels - Post-Game Discussion

I can't believe for the supposed number one fan, Porthoz forgot the most vital stat that sets Gillett apart from all the rest.

Maybe you just assumed that others knew, clearly not.

Tries baby.

I didn't forget BP... I only put up the typical forward stats to see how "selective" QUEENSLANDER would be. :wink:

Later more...

Okay, as promised...

Note that the averages are different for each type of stat, to reflect more accurately the actual output.
Offensive stats:
- Run average p/min
- Tackle Break and Offloads are averages p/run

Defensive stats:
- Errors, Penalties Tackles and Missed Tackles average p/min
- 1 on 1 and ineffective tackles average p/tackle

The green cells highlight better stats for Gillett, while the red ones are worse. Simply:
Green = Gillett GOOD! :top:
Red = Gillett BAD! :thumpdown:
White = Same

First the comparison to the middle ruck players / locks / props:

Offense:

Defense:

From the runs and tackles averages, it's clear that he doesn't have the work ethic of these players. He has however a higher try scoring/assist ability, better discipline, more effective runs, both in meters gained as well as tackle breaks, and while his ineffective/missed tackles are a touch below par, the amount of 1 on 1 tackles he does is practically double of the rest, which is always a sure way to get your missed tackle up.
Still, it is obvious that he doesn't really belong in this category of hard toilers.

So let's look at the fringe second rowers and how they stack up...

Offense:

Defense:

Well... There isn't single player you can say is overal better than Gillett, because they either will have better attacking stats (Ma'u, Taumalolo for example) and worse defensive/discipline stats, or the other way around.

What does it mean really?
Of all the names ventured to be much better than Gillett... none of them really can claim a clear cut advantage. I'd say that in the NRL world where he competes amongst another 60 or so second rowers, that places him well at the top, just good enough for ISC...

Gillett averages more metres per run than Burgess and Watmough? ****...

Hala has racked up a third of Lowries metres and Lowrie has played 4 more games.

Gillett averages more metres per run than Burgess and Watmough? ****...

probably due to:
- surgess and watmough taking hit ups early in the set, gillett usually 4th or 5th
- gillett extra run metres from a couple of line breaks eg the 30 metre run when he scored off a barba inside pass.

Average run meters is such a stupid stat, as you pointed out the flaws in it. Add a linebreak into a forwards game and the avg metres is inflated, much like a winger scoring a length of the field try will then usually get the most metres made for the game

Okay, adding line breaks to Gillett's good stats. :takdir:

i'd love to see a stat on the amount of times our centres and wingers receive the ball in an attacking motion (ie not a hit up in own end/kick return/etc). compared to the rest of hte comp.

How about some stats about our backs? Can't seem to find it on the net

Porthoz You should do one about Josh Hoffman's runs per receive ratio compared to the rest of the halves in the comp.

What a great idea Ari! Wink wink Porthoz
