Over the past 24 hours, we've seen some of the biggest club greats come out and give Bennett a nice old strafing. Parker at the press conference, Tallis in his article and Locky had a sort of soft go at him too the other day. I didn't realize Bennett was offside with so many of these players who he basically turned into superstars. Oddly enough, the only one I haven't seen rubbish him is Hodges.

What is going on with this?

Tallis has an agenda against Bennett and it wouldn't look good for Lockyer to come out in the media and say Broncos need Bennett back.

Perhaps they disapprove of his abhorrent behaviour in quitting the Knights when they probably need him the most.

Any boss somewhere for 21 years is going to have people off-side. Renouf called for his return and they had a falling out in '99 and didn't speak for a long while.

Lockyer didn't saying anything, they're still close. He's a director he is limited to what he can say.

Parker can't really say much either way, he paid respect to Bennett but supported Hook- that's pretty much all he can do.

Tallis still thinks Bennett used him up he wanted to retire earlier but Bennett convinced him not to and then brushed up post 2004.

Bennett will probably clean the joint out from a back office and structure side of things. So maybe the clicky groups in the club are worried about this so they are getting on the front foot to try and derail his come back. There will be some nervous staff members if he is re appointed. He cleaned the dragons and knights out from top to bottom.

If this is the case I have even less understanding as to why any fan wouldn't want him back.

He would be the perfect Coaching Director in that case. Keep Hook until his contract is up or whatever they want to do but get Bennett involved in the club somehow.

yeh and look how well he's done at Newcastle. he left the broncos and dragons in shambles, and now he's doing the same for the knights.

Just have a look at what has happened to every club after he has left them ...

Broncos went backwards
Dragons fell into a heap
Knights currently in a heap.

If he comes back it would likely only be 2 or 3 years before he retires. then when he leaves again we are in the same position of trying to replace him.

IMHO, we are far better off finding a coach that will be with us long term. someone who isn't afraid to make the hard decisions. someone who top players want to play for (or will be that person). Someone who can restore the club to its rightful place as a powerhouse of the competition, someone who can turn us into a consistent premiership threat once again.

Now, i don't claim to know who that person is, and i certainly don't believe that Griffin is that person. but i do know that Bennett is not that person either. Bennett is a short term option not the long term option we need to be searching for.

However, if the club's back office or structures need a clean out, then he can do that in the football department just as easily, while being a mentor for our new coach (should he need one).

I am all for another coach other than Bennett too, but who?

My only concern is ensuring we don't go into 2015 with griffin at the helm. It will be just another wasted year when IMHO our premiership window is opening next year.

We can't waste anymore years on Anthony griffin

This, whether he's here coaching short or long term, we'll still need a successor this time round.

Lockys public comments dont mean a thing,

The current boys have no choice but to publicly back the coach,

That said, i still reckon him to the dragons is a done deal,

No argument here; Wayne is not the long term option

But, if the long term option is not available, then it's standard practice to secure a short term option while the search goes on

I would take Wayne back for 3 years while the search continues for the right long term option
