I think some people do it to feel some sort of ownership. There are obviously enough talently-bankrupted but cash-flush people out there that want to feel like they're a part of something creative and/or exciting.The whole Patreon thing is odd to me. Some content creators offer some decent incentives to join (free shit, discounted tech etc) but some of them basically give you nothing. It's pretty much just give me money to receive a notification that I've uploaded a video. I can understand supporting a channel financially if you really enjoy it, but some of these guys seem to make massive amounts of money from advertising alone so it's not like they're doing it for free.
