This has been a problem ever since the ground's 're-birth' in 2003 (?) ... The playing surface seems to be permanently boggy and slimy during the middle months of the RL season .. and this year in particular its seems apparent that there is either a drainage problem or an issue with the soil being used because the ground just hasn't dried out at all from the rain we've had over the past couple of weeks ..

I remember hearing in the early days of the (new) ground that sunlight was an issue - as in not enough getting on the grass because of the cavernous structure of the stands .. Regardless, it just seems ridiculous that Queensland's premier RL ground looks like something from the middle of an English winter .. especially given how great the surface always was right up until the ground had its renovation a decade ago ..

Only poured with rain all day Friday though.

^ true but grounds should be able to handle that sort of thing on their ear nowadays ... look at pretty much every ground where professional codes are played down south and they're all in pretty great shape right throughout the winter ... Up here in Queensland we should be able to do better

Even ANZ stadium is looking better / holding up better than suncorp through the winter months

To be fair as well, there are a lot of events being played at Suncorp now as well between League, Union and the A-League.

If they haven't already, perhaps whomever is responsible should invest in some undersoil heating?

Might be overkill, but that's how a lot of grounds in Europe stay in top condition during the harsh winters they have.

I reckon it's just being used a lot more.

It's nothing compared to the sandy mess it once was.

All stadiums are a couch, and I think Suncorp is Legend Couch. Couch needs a minimum of 8 hours direct sunshine a day. I know from my own backyard that a section only gets 3-4 hours, and it's almost dead. Combine boots grinding it up and it's no wonder it's fucked.

Buffalo isn't really an option for stadium grass, but there's some more shade tolerant varieties of couch or rye grass out there.

Can't believe there is a conversations about types of grass on BHQ.

Just set up some mirrors and Indiana Jones that turf!

The fact that the surface was a few metres under water not so long go wouldn't help.....you would think
