Who's it gonna be?

Always seems to be some young dude come through and have a huge impact - Karmichael Hunt, Matty Gillett, Jack Reed, et al.

I'll say Jordan Kahu. Would absolutely love to see him succeed after going through two knee reconstructions.

You guys don't just have to say a name and be done with it... you're allowed to say why and so on. :winky:

I'd like to see Hala be a force off the bench. Rotating Hannant, McGuire and Hala all on decent form would be awesome.

I'm gonna go with Gibb. I reckon he has all the talent just needs some opportunity and with the bench fairly unsorted this year might be his shot

I reckon the wing spot is probably the most open of any at the club. Copley will certainly occupy one wing but the other is pretty much wide open with Maranta maybe just ahead in the pecking order. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Delroy Berryman end up there. Granted, he's going to have to make waves during the trial but he could be a real bolter.

Up-front, I really liked what I saw of Jarrod Wallace when he came into our Origin depleted side. Still a bit raw, especially with his defence but has plenty of power and can bend the line back. A combination of him and Hala working at tandem off the bench could be fantastic.

If Hook is looking for a direct replacement for Te'o, I reckon Corey Oates is the closest we've got at the club. Tall, rangy, runs fantastic lines and has the mobility to play in the centres, I see big things in his future.

Personally, I'd love to see Hook reconsider the bench utility spot and give either Kurt Baptiste or Jake Granville the opportunity to impress. Both could provide the energy we sorely lack when Macca comes off and even bamboozle the defence with their differing approach to the ruck.

I could keep waxing lyrical about our players all day so I'll stop before I do. I just hope fans realise that despite the departures, we still have some very talented players at the club and have a lot to be proud of.

Oh and since I'm ill and kind of bored I thought I'd do a list of bolters through the years.

2002: Steve Irwin
2003: Nobody (Scott Minto later on)
2004: Karmichael Hunt
2005: Leon Bott
2006: Shane Perry
2007: Joel Moon
2008: Reece Robinson
2009: Antonio Winterstein
2010: Matt Gillett
2011: Jack Reed
2012: Nobody (Jarrod Wallace later on)

Shane Perry, Joel Moon, Reece Robinson? Maybe as players that played most of that particular season, but none of them was anywhere near a "hotshot"!

2012: Dale Copley, towards the end of the season really took his game to a new level. although it wasn't his first season...

2012: Nobody

To an extent I agree, though he wasn't explosive during his time I thought Maranta handled himself very well during a period when the team as a whole was underperforming, he was one of our better performers and very unlucky not to hang onto a spot when Copley returned. In saying that he doesn't really qualify as a hotshot as such, but I don't think theres really another player that made their debut or really stepped up in 2012 for the Broncos as much as he did.

Which is why I called them bolters, with the first round of the season particularly in mind. I'd have Boyd > Perry though.

Fair call GC. I just didn't see him as 'coming from no where' since he was being earmarked by the pre-season.

Oh I definitely agree with you there you can't really say there was anyone who really came from nowhere, though tbh Big Pete looking at some of those names of the "big bolters" I kind of prefer that Maranta didn't set the world of fire cause theres a fair few number in that lot who done nothing since, he on the otherhand may have not set the world on fire, handled himself well in a difficult period for the side when other big name players failed to deliver.

Probably way off the mark but I wonder if Bond could be our Barba?

Berryman looks like he has some pace on him, obviously behind YY, Kahu and Kemp.

I'm not as literal with my interpretation of 'no-where' I just see it as a player outside of the frame like Hunt, Boyd or Reed. Maranta was one of the first players in 3 years to be promoted from NYC to Qld Cup. He was obviously being groomed for the spot.

I'm not knocking Maranta either. Muffin Man is a smart League player. But he just doesn't fit my criteria, particularly the part about it being Round 1.

Hrrm..

Caleb Timu I think has the potential to do make a mark given the type of player he is (explosive, big guy). I'd put Hala in that category as well (if we can keep him uninjured and on the park). This will be his third season though.

I'm another Copley fan and given he is Hodges understudy, he'll get plenty of game time in his preferred position over the season.

I'd like to see some variety in our forwards for once. Everyone except for Hannant and Parker is more or less the same type of player. So I'm going to live dangerously, and back an unknown big/chubby type of guy with an offload and some ball playing. Do we have anyone like that?
