Just in time for the finals, I didn't think we could get through the rest of the season without more headlines.

I will say one thing though, without knowing exactly what he was supposed to have done, I passed probaly 20 or so drunks on the way from the caxton down to the Raiders game and walked straight passed at least 8 coppers and none of them them were approached. After the game was worse but no public nuisances to be seen by the police.

It seems they sweat on NRL players for there 15 mins of fame.

Pretty simple, they were given a move on order for whatever reason and Thurston obviously didnt move on so he spent the morning locked up.

Good riddance. There are enough drunk idiots on the street acting like idiots and being a pest, if you don't obide by a move on order than you can spend the night in the slammer.
Exactly my point, why aren't they all being arrested.

Well in your case it was around what, 6:30, 7pm? Thurston and co were out at 4am. Police are more likely to be moving people along at that hour, and there's usually less people out (especially on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning).

I know what you're implying, but I don't think that's the case.

Play wrestling apparently and ended up on top of a cab.

Yeah. Everyone else maybe drunk idiots. But they aren't wrestling on George Street, to the point where they end up on a cab.

Make an example of the dickhead. Massive fine.

No,we should really go to town on him, bringing the game into disrepute,he is an example to both Australians at large, the youth of Australia and the Indigenous adults of Australia and to the youth aboriginal population....I say banned from the game altogether, 250 thousand dollar fine and ten years in the electric chair followed by 26 years of solitary confinement plus a completed alcohol offenders course....only fair and balanced given the gravity of the offence.

100% agree. Sammy T is the man!

Storm meet tea-cup.

Yes he's an idiot, yes he broke the law. Night in lock-up and fine just like anyone else in the same situation fair outcome - story over.

Just added in the extra bit that always applies in this situation.

But you're right. It's no big deal. Though I'm sure his club isn't that impressed that their star player is out getting shit faced and mucking around on or near the road while recovering from a serious foot injury...wouldn't surprise me if they give him an extra fine on top, and rightly so.

Yeah they don't muck around after they've given you a MOVE ON.

Plus when they started mucking around and ended up on top of a cab they were becoming a danger to themselves and others. I think the police acted completely appropriately judging by the reports of the incident.

There won't be any serious ramifications for Thurston or Daley from the police, though their club might have other thoughts, as I said. Afterall, the club just finished last by a significant margin (not counting Melbourne) and it's not a good look for them to have players behaving like this, even in the offseason, especially given Thurston's profile, and even more especially since he's recovering from serious injury as it is.

He was given a MOVE ON order. Have you ever been given one by Police? It means you have to GTFO. And if you don't GTFO and you do not abide by the direction of the police then you get arrested. I am sure a lot of other drunks got quite a few of them that night as well, difference is they probably abided by it and moved along. Thurston didn't and that's the difference.

He was treated like any other normal every day civilian. There's nothing to suggest that he was treated any differently.[/quote:3p7qkkpe]

In the ACT if you fail to move on and get locked up for the night that is basically all you receive for the first offence. You go befeore the magistrate and basically the punishment has already been served by being locked up at the time. BUT you do have a criminal record because of it.

Daley is just some guy as far as I know, ie no affiliation with any NRL club besides being mates with NRL players.

Ah ok, I thought I read he was a lower grade player. Could be wrong. If I read it in the press, almost certainly wrong :P

Sure he deserved what he got, no arguement, but as been said time and again do we really need to know evrytime an NRL player farts in public.?

I have seen many a time in town young blokes antagonising the police, calling them for everything and calling them cowards when they walk away, where is the balance? Who would it have hurt if they had have just put him in the cab and sent him on his way.
Too many wannabes out there looking for their 15 mins.
