Annesley needs to come out tomorrow and make zero excuses for that. The refs and the bunker royally f**ked it, in multiple different ways, all in the one instance:

- Not having the brains or the balls to call the Feldt dive for what it was, a dive

- That instance isn't even challengable under the rules. The refs don't even know what the rules they're reffing by even are

- I'm pretty certain a comfortable 20 seconds had passed between the moment the dive happened and the ref calling the challenge. He was so muddled between trying to hear what Klown was telling him in his earpiece, the players yelling different shit at him and the noise of the crowd screaming that he completely lost track of what he was doing

- The ref never explicitly asked the captain if he wanted to challenge. he had to be prodded to even bring it up

I mean turn it all the way up. This is meant to be a professional sport, and this is the garbage that the team running LAST has to put up copping from the team running 2nd. This is Rugby League, not Professional Wrestling.

The result can't be reversed without a media hurricane ensuing, but at the very least the Tigers deserve a legit apology tomorrow morning. I fear for the repercussions we will have to face next week. We will get nothing from the refs now.

They'll get their apology but this result doesn't just affect Tiger fans

From what I have read, neutrals all across various forums are in disbelief. It's not just a bad call, it's the circumstance that allowed them to even challenge it

There we go, I just timed it: 26 seconds between the dive and the ref sending it up for the challenge. Farcical.

You can see Townsend talking to the official right away. It's fair to say he's lodged his challenge before the 10 seconds expiration.

I really dont have much of an issue with allowing the challenge call if that's how they want to allow it. Even though I think its dumb as shit but so be it.

The real worry is that horrible bunker call. Why do we continue to award players milking penalties? any one but a 2 headed cowgirl fan will tell you that was not worth a penalty.

And the problem is its happened so much this year and its not even the normal one eye supporters blowing up about it like you would expect.

Alot of the outrage is coming from neutrals that are just so sick of seeing good games ruined by farcical situations.

I can just see the grand final being won in some ridiculous manner by a team that doesn't deserve it.

the reason they don't allow a challenge, unless there is a structured stoppage in play is because that would effective allow a captain to challenge at any time.

imagine getting a roll on then the opposition captain is able to stop it dead in it's tracks because of a captains challenge (even if he loses the challenge, his team still gets the advantage)

At the end of the day, the Bunker needs to be reigned right in to have as little involvement in games as possible. Right down to try scoring situations and captains challenges (legitimate ones, you know in regular time?). Thank you, goodbye, the end.

Nothing short of pathetic. Refs don't even know the rules, how truly embarrassing.

We are getting reamed even more than usual net week, chalk it a loss already.

LMFAO. Thank you, V'landys, for changing the rules every other Tuesday. Excellent product, totally imperfect, further revisions please.

Payten was in the post match presser pretty much justifying that because they have had tries taken off them this year and that cost them games... of course, he forgets to mention they were legit no try decisions (well at least one of them is, i don't recall the round 1 incident he refers to)

No matter what way they dice it, the NRL made a blunder. By their protocols, what should have happened is that Chris Butler via Ashley Klein should have penalised Kepaoa for the escort and it should have been Wests who challenged the call. It should never have transpired with the Cowboys challenging the call of full-time.

This is one of the main issues I have with the captain's challenge. On paper, it's a nice innovation but it's just been so poorly implemented and led to a lot of inconsistency. The NRL just needs to refine the rule so it's clear what can and cannot be challenged and the proper processes so it can be consistent across the entire game.

They also need to make the rules accessible to the public so fans don't lose trust in the system. Because there's so many rulings and interpretations that aren't covered by their official documents and it leads to so much confusion and frustration among the fans.

The other point is the escort penalty. Queensland had a similar call go against them in Origin II which also saw bunker intervention. It's not a black and white rule and the NRL needs to be clear what elements need to be present to constitutes interference.

From my perspective, both Kepaoa and Feldt were competing for the ball, they ran shoulder to shoulder which they're entitled to do and Feldt fell over to draw the penalty. Kepaoa was holding his ground getting back to compete for the ball.

There needs to be a defence for milking which is what Feldt clearly did.
