I've been watching 'The Boys' another Garth Ennis (Preacher) adaptation about a directionless 20-something who is working for this group of renegades after his girlfriend was inadverently killed by their version of the avengers. There's been plenty of super-hero satires over the years, yet I find this one interesting because it uses the genre to explore ideas like the duality of being a celebrity and the insincerity that comes along with it. Plus, it's just really funny. Karl Urban steals every scene he's in and I can't get enough of Homelander either. It's like having Patrick Bateman as a super-hero.

Caught Chris Lilley's new show Lunatics. I didn't hear anything about it, I just looked him up to see if he was working on anything and was surprised to hear this show had been out for months. It's more of the same and while it pales in comparison to his earlier works, there's an authenticity to his comedy that's shockingly rare.

I've been working through Black Mirror as well. Since it's an anthology series, I find myself jumping from different seasons. I started with Season 3, got up to the movie and got stuck into Season 1, then jumped to 5 and recently watched through Episodes 1, 3 and the movie from Season 2. It's one of those rare shows that not only lives up to the hype but exceeds it.

I'm curious for fans of the show, what's your favourite Black Mirror episode? For me, 15 Million Merits was the one that moved me the most.
I have just finished The Boys and can't wait for season 2. How far along are you Pete?

I can't say for Pete but I finished The Boys season 1 myself and can't wait for season 2 either. Also looking forward to season 3 of Cobra Kai and the next season of Rick and Morty.

I tried it when it first came out, just couldn’t get into it. I found it pretty slow and boring, no charm at all.
Fair play, I can see how it may not appeal. If it doesn’t have you laughing, it’s pretty formulaic and derivative

Six episodes in. I saw the episode where Haley Joel Osment played a former child star superhero and was brought into uncover the past of that savage Asian super powered girl.

Things were heating up but I won't be able to watch the next episode until Sunday. :(

Interested in the new Netflix show, ‘Better Than US’. Looks like an interesting sci-fi with all the AI and robots jazz that I love. It is Russian with English subs though. I quite like subtitled TV shows and movies because I can have the volume down without waking anybody up, whilst not missing any of the script or SFX.

Same, I however think it comes from all the SBS I watched as a young teenage boy though.

Me too mate. In the early 90’s it wasn’t so easy to find porn. SBS ftw!

I still only watch SBS and ABC. The new SBS World Movies channel is excellent!

Yeah they even had some great stuff to watch even though there's no nudity in it. Used to show all the old Jackie chan stuff. Holy **** was he good in his younger days.

I used to love the manga/anime films they showed. Ninja Scroll and Gigolo were the two that got me into it via SBS in the 90’s

I don't even like anime but I loved that Ninja scroll. Watched that neon genesis too, loved it all the way up to the final episode then didn't understand a thing.. Maybe it got lost in translation or something.

Haha. They ran out of money so they set the last two episodes entirely in Shinji's head. When they did the movies (they're on Netflix now) to animate what was happening in the real world in those two episodes they showed some of the buckets of hate mail they got.

Congratulations.

I liked both endings but I actually enjoyed how unorthodox the original finale was. The whole mecha plot felt like a front to begin with, the show always seemed to be about Shinji's internal struggle.

I was surprised at how well the show held up. I thought it'd be nothing more than angst ridden mecha fights, but it plays around with the genre. I especially enjoyed how ubiquous the angels were. It doesn't matter how powerful the last one was, in the very next episode it would have a resistance to whatever strategy the heroes came up with.

Plus the theme song is amazing.
