AUSTRALIA are no longer certainties to lift the World Cup on November 22 - because the trophy is missing.

Once found on a Bradford rubbish tip after being lost for 20 years, the venerable cup was sent from Melbourne to Brisbane by courier late last week. It is the first time it has travelled without an escort so far in the tournament.

The courier company's computer system duly broke down, rendering the scanning system which finds containers and packages inoperable. Officials said last night they thought it was at Brisbane Airport but weren't sure where.

"They still haven't found it? Geez," tournament director Colin Love said to The Daily Telegraph late last night after watching Australia beat Papua New Guinea 46-6.

"I'll just say this. Let's hope it isn't another 20 years before it shows up."

LOL at least it's where it belongs, unless Australia don't' win it, then it's where it belongs anyway!

It's useless, why would anyone steal it.

Imagine pulling that out at the next BBQ to drink out of. haha

I reckon Russell Crowe stole it. Needs something for that very bare trophy cabinet!

I'm implying that the 20 premierships they won have since rusted away to nothing...hehe, rusty...Russell Crowe...hehehehe

I dont see why you would want to steal a trophy like that? Whats it going to mean to 'Joe Blow' on the streets? Absolutely nothing, just a bit of silverware in the cupboard

HAHAHAHA. Just proves how worthless it is.

Really? I thought only things of worth got stolen... otherwise, what would be the point? [icon_lol1. [icon_wink

Because the people who think the world cup means anything to the game aren't that bright? [icon_wink

Or they could be just fans of the game [icon_wink

They could be. The birghter fans would like to see then make the world cup something to be proud of, and actually give the missing item some value. ;-)

I doubt it's been stolen. Probably the address lable fell of the the person in the office at the courier company doesn't follow league so doesn't know what to do with it

Maybe he means, it's not protected cause you don't care enough? Would you leave a 15k diamond ring in the hands of aus post.... [icon_lol1.

Which can only be done by getting involved and supporting it while it's still in its developing stage.

Not switching on the TV, going to games and buying memorabilia etc. isn't going to help the cause [icon_wink

Spot on mick! How else is it meant to become better?
If we for example every worldcup had 50k turn up you could imagine how good the world cup would look regardless of AUS and lopsided scores.

It's the hype which is built up, can only be built by fans, ala tonga V somoa

Then a rethink of the rules will need to be done to get everyone involved. Especially the eligibility.
