Since the Tigers have officially made it clear that Potter has been sacked, I was wondering if you were put in charge, who would you hire as the coach in the situation?

The front-runners include...

David Kidwell - Current West Tigers Support Staff
Todd Payten - Current West Tigers Support Staff
Anthony Griffin - Former Brisbane Broncos Head Coach
Nathan Brown - Current St. Helens Head Coach, former St. George Illawarra & Huddersfield Giants Head Coach
Jason Taylor - Current Sydney Roosters Support Staff, former Head Coach of Parramatta Eels & South Sydney Rabbitohs
Matt Parish - Current Manly Sea Eagles Support Staff, former Head Coach of the Salford City Reds.

Or is there somebody else you believe should receive a look-in?

Also let's say you were in charge of the roster - how would you manage it?

I reckon you'd have to go Jason Taylor.

I thought his first two years as a head coach showed plenty of promise and he'd be facing a very similar situation at Wests. I'm really unsure what happened in 2008-09 for him, I'd have to look into it or my mate Twiztid would have to give me the ins and outs as to why he copped the brunt of Fa'alogo's fury because the sooner you can identify the issue there, the sooner you can arrive to a decision on him.

As for the second part of my question...

The problem is that they still have a very young squad and seem to lack the type of players who are willing to guts it out when the going gets tough. I reckon they'd be smart to review who's available and see if they can't entice them with the promise of a chance to extend their careers and play NRL footy. Particularly backrows where they seem to be light on. Heck, I think they'd even be smart to try and lure Jack Bird from St George Illawarra since he's the type of player you can really build a backrow around. He might not have the miles but long term he'd be of benefit, I'm sure.

Would really like to see Jason Taylor get another coaching gig. His coaching is underrated and he played a big part in the revival of South Sydney before they made a mistake sacking him.

The new head coach apparently has autonomy this time, Potter was scapegoated by a bunch of infighting and innuendo. He was probably offered to stay on and told them to bugger off.

Griffin could scrape them into the eight but so could anyone else on that list given a real shot.

If true, it wouldn't surprise me if Griffin makes a real go of it down there. With a playing roster he hasn't coached since they were teenagers he may not have the same sense of loyalty and patience towards them as he did with the Broncos.

Yeah, Jason Taylor for mine, but I could be convinced to give Parish a chance

In a way I want it to be Hook, as I'm just curious to see what he could do there

I'd go Anthony Griffin on a two year deal as he certainly knows how to nurture talent as shown in his U20 time here. Since it is such a young roster down there and he has the ability to show faith and confidence in young players, that could be a good fit. I'd be signing Mason ASAP as a mentor for the young forwards. I would also target Ben Hannant depending on salary limitations.

Taylor imo. If they needed a mass cleanout, I'd sound out Brian Smith though.

Jason Demetriou- is an outsider. He's been interviewed a few times now for NRL roles and is getting closer.

I didn't think he was that bad a coach. Our 2007 defence at stages was up there with our current sort of defence. I honestly can't remember 2008 or 2009 that well, they just all blur into years of so much promise but so much disappointment.

I still feel the whole Fa'alogo incident was a cheap way to piss him off as they were not happy with the results. Plus Richo is big on buying any player he has dealt with at previous clubs. So went out to Lang to hopefully "save the day" as coach.

Pretty sure he coached the Roosters NYC team pretty well for a few years. So I think he could make the step up again. Being a half he might be able to get the best out of some of their young talent coming through. If he can find that defensive structures he used for us in 2007 and probably learnt what the Roosters have been doing. He could be really good for the Tigers. We know how good they have been at broken play football but they defence has always been suspect.

Paul Kent thinks it'll be Hook

He said the exact opposite on NRL 360 tonight, he said Hook hasn't got the premiership winning capabilities or experience to coach the tigers, he suggested someone like Steve Folks.

Jason Taylor is easily the best assistant coach right now, he understands the game better than most. I actually want him at the Broncos in some capacity, but he deserves a head gig.
