Who do you currently regard as the 3 greatest players & why?

anyone mentioned is currently retired, but who are currently your picks of the 3 or 4
greatest NRL players ever and please say why, for each player named (as in for the
player's great playing style, their track record and anything else).

Meninga - dominated at all levels and inspired men to follow him
Langer - overachiever, not too many players have forced the administrators to change the rules of the sport they play.
Lockyer - drips class even though he has spent most of his career out of position

Clyde - frighteningly good lock who would have been even greater if not for all the horrible injuries he sustained

greatest NRL players ever

There are 4 players in my list. I'll explain my selections later

I'm going to take it at face value and only include NRL players (ie, first grade since 1998).

1. Lockyer. Absolutely the best player in the NRL era
2. Johns. Not far behind, was at his peak from 2000 to 2002, never reached those heights again
3. Langer. On the way out, but his performance in 1998, the inaugural year of the NRL, was the most dominant halfback season the NRL has seen thus far. To come back as a 100 year old in 2002 and still be effective (if not dominant) showed his brilliance.

Lockyer - The football god. His not the player he was back in his early twenties, but you can't win games from fullback. He's been the reason we've won games from about 06 when he stepped up and became a smarter player.

Langer - My favourite player as a kid. I thought he was the greatest ever when I was a kid. I didnt understand footy that much but all I knew was when Langer played, we won!

Johns - There wasn't much this guy could not do on the footy field. Being a halfback he really dominated when he was on fire. I gotta give props, he was the best at making average players look like star players.

Taking it as being NRL onwards:

Lockyer - the world's best 5/8th played out of position at fullback.
Johns - As much as I disliked him during his playing career, his value to any team he played on was undeniable.
Stacey Jones - Has all the skills, and the brains to go with them
