I'm interested to see how everyone here became a Broncos fan, and how long they've been fans of the Broncos and NRL in general. Have you supported other teams, or do you currently support more?

I was about 5 at the time and living at a coal mining town in Queensland called Middlemount, I remember when the announcement that the Broncos were to be admitted into the NSWRL my father being really excited and he wanted to go to the first game in Brisbane so he went and brought me along, I wasn't really that keen but he had a surprise for me before we went to the match, he bought me a Broncos Jersey and when I saw it and tried it on I was so excited for some reason, something about that Jersey just made me excited. I don't remember much of the game itself but from that day on I have been a Broncos fan and always will be.

Dad has been a supporter of the Broncos since he first came to Australia 30 years ago, I grew up with my dad being a huge fan of them and kind of went with it.

The earliest I remember being a fan is around late 1988, although im sure i probably watched games with dad all the time that year since footy was a big part of our life since before then, Dad was a regular at Kougari on game day. my first game attended was 89, when Dad took me to a match against Manly which we lost and I didnt know much of what was going on. from there on I got more knowledgeable and I loved the shit out of the Broncos.

Had two older brothers that supported the eels in the 80s and I got their hand me down jerseys. When Brisbane came in I jumped on board to mainly stick it to my qld based but parra loving bros. Know who has won that war since then...

My mum basically picked my side before I could even speak - I grew up in Broncos jerseys and remember my folks and their friends and family gathering round the telly and watching the Broncos play. I didn't understand the attraction of professional sports until I was around 10 or so and my dad picked me up from after school care and had a present for me: a Broncos poster signed by Tallis and Lockyer.

As luck would have it, the Broncos had a game that night and it turned out to be an absolute ripper against Melbourne. It was a back and forth contest that ended in a pulsating draw after a fairly simple Lavea penalty kick sailed wide of the posts. I had never watched anything so compelling and plain awesome in my life and became hopelessly hooked from then on.

I continue to support the Broncos because I feel like it's a club that holds itself to a high standard both on and off the field. There's a strong rich character that strives for excellence and prides itself in being the best it can be.

I think also the exciting style of football they played influenced me too, if they hadn't of been in the competition and I followed league I probably would have followed the Raiders, this is a good example of why http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5eJRiEc3hY

God I loved seeing Paul Hauff in action, shame injuries ruined his career.

I used to support Manly. (don't hold that against me)

When the 1988 draw came out & the first game was Manly vs Broncos, I didn't know who to cheer.

Right up until kickoff, I didn't know which team to cheer, then kickoff happened & I screamed go Broncos & have been a fan ever since.

Why are you a Brisbane Broncos Fan - cause of alfie langer

Because the Broncos gave QLD players the chance to stay in QLD and play in the NSWRL.....the so-called big league.

It gave us the opportunity to show those arrogant fuckheads in NSW that SOO was no fluke and that QLD was the supreme Rugby League state.

As a 21 yr old I was there at the first game in "88 when we flogged the shit out of the Sea Eagles (so sweet considering they were my most despised Sydney team) My support hasn't wavered since.......I'll admit it might have been tested when WB shafted Wally 2 yrs on

but still,

I'm a Brisbane boy and I wasn't about to start following the Gold Coast .... not even for the king. I bowed to Bennett's judgement.

A lot of my mates didn't and never forgave the club or Bennett. Since then, they've flip flopped between various clubs (much to my amusement) and as I relentlessly point out to them.....they've paid the price and are destined to forever roam RL's land of the lost souls as supporters without a club to follow.

Every pre season text messages are sent with the same question.

Which club colours did Santa give you this year.....boys? :001_tt2:

I supported Newcastle Knights and NZ Warriors before Broncos. Mother began supporting Brisbane when Talis was captain, maybe even before that, since that's the earliest I can remember. Me, Mum, Dad and my Sister went to the Prelim and Grand finals in 06 and well, you should know the rest.

I've never known anything other than being a Broncos supporter. My dad has been a supporter ever since coming to Australia because he has had some family that have been involved in the system and he passed that on to me.

Dad took my brother and I to the first home game at ANZ Stadium (QE II) in 1993, I was only 4 but I remember we lost to Parra and we were acting like idiots so these two old ladies gave us a lesson in crowd etiquette :glare:

Didn't watch another game or start supporting them until 2008 and have been a season member for the past 5 years.

I can distinctly recall in 1994 watching Broncos games and only really knew the number 7 (Langer). I was always curious as to why the Broncos would wear one jersey one week then a different jersey the following week (which was the Diamonds jersey).

I would always, without fail, fall asleep at or by halftime on the lounge while watching with my dad as the games would start at 8.30pm on the Friday nights.

My first genuine Broncos fan memory was the 1990 preliminary final and I cried when we lost. I remember my Grandma telling me it was just a game of footy and there is always next year (a concept pretty foreign to a 7 year old). My sister then brought it up the next year at my birthday in front of all of my mates and I got really pissed at her and got in trouble on my own birthday... Good times. My family still gives me shit about crying over that game.

I think those emotional experiences (and the GF win two years later) reinforced me as a Broncos fan. That and the fact none of my other siblings really watched the footy and I got to spend quality time with Mum and Dad on a Friday night/Sunday/Saturday. I always remember Friday Night Footy was a massive deal - take away food, lollies, footy - I used to love it! Still do (replace lollies with beer)

I remember little bits prior to 1991, that was the year I start having clear memories of being a supporter but even those are all over the shop. My old man liked them so that was enough for me, also I was born and raised here, I would myself feel very strange supporting a team from another city when I have a team in that league in my city.

Brisbane-born and brisbane-bred. Never liked any other side in the comp from when I started watching the footy back in 1992 or so. Although I wasn't into the footy as much as I am now until about 2005-2006.
