Pretty much the opposite to the other thread B-man started. :handshake:

From the recent times, David Williams, Steve Turner, Josh Hannay, Rhys Wesser...you could probably make a case for ones like Carl Webb too, but I don't think he'd be the worst of the worst.

As in, the worst players who made Origin and Australia? Or the worst performances for Origin and Australia?

Because I thought Hannay & Webb were solid for the Maroons.

Otherwise...

Jason King
Kurt Gidley
Jason Moodie
Josh Perry
Jamal Idris
Trent Waterhouse
Ben Creagh
Brett White
Casey McGuire
Anthony Quinn
Anthony Laffranchi
James McManus
Justin Poore
Dean Young
Phil Bailey
Ryan O'Hara
Craig Gower
Mark Hughes
Russell Bawden

etc. etc.

Any of the small wingers nsw put in to compete with inglis, folau etc - turner, quinn, williams. I think gidley is totally overrated, and never get why they keep picking creagh.

From our side of things, stu kelly, david stagg, casey mcguire

Big special mention to Chris Flannery too.

Big special mention to Chris Flannery too.

No ****ing way. flannery was a great player for qld for many years. for a while, i could never quite figure out why he was selected, but after a while i realised how he was always there to clean up a loose ball, or was the person giving chase the hardest. not the most talented player ever, but very dedicated to the qld jersey and really kicked it up a notch in the origin arena. doesnt deserve to be mentioned in this thread at all.

yeh flannery was another average NRL player who played above his weight in origin. he was outstanding in his last series and last match in particular. like Queenslander I questioned his selection, but his effort when selected was top notch.

some of mine would be:

QLD:
David Stagg
Stu Kelly
Casey McGuire
Russel Bawden
Chris Beattie
Travis Norton

NSW:
pretty much every new winger/centre in the last 7 years apart from Uate/Morris. having said that, Uate has shown hes not up to origin standard.
Ben Creagh
Beau Scott

I think Tony Williams might end up one. I have no idea what some many people see in him at that level.

I had a challenge with Pete to name the worst ever rep team and see who made the worst one. This is my team with the reason why I choose them

1: Kurt Gidley - Not a bad player but has/was given far to many chances and made teams undeservedly

2: Nathan Merritt - Was always just a consistent club player who was talked up by the Souths fan club. Was pushed every year to get a game, got picked and had a shocker

3: Dane Nielsen - Storm flop and nothing more. Didn't play bad from memory but has dipped away since leaving Melbourne and is now anonymous

4: Phil Bailey - Head scratcher at the time and is another forgettable rep player and player in general. Came of the NSW bench throughout 2003 and played 3 tests for Australia that year

5: Steve Turner - Very lucky to play only played because Hayne was suspended late. A stronger Nathan Merritt but played a shocker in his sole game

6: Ben Hornby - Annonymous test player playing 1 test in 2006 against the Poms and 3 Origins for NSW. Liked him as a player but he is here because how anonymous his Kangaroo jumper is

7: Mitchell Pearce - Given far to many chances in Origin. Very good club player but can't bring it to Origin

8: Brett White - Storm flop. Was going to give this spot to Ryan O'Hara but White got the nod considering he played 8 origins and 3 tests

9: Michael Ennis - Another Mitchell Pearce, was undeservedly picked over Farah. Good club player but was shit in Origin

10: Richard Villasanti - Probably the most random Kangaroo selection ever. Borderline first grader that never came close to a Blues or Country spot

11: Brad Meyers - Was good at the time but crashed badly after 2001

12: David Taylor - Talked up nonstop but has never delivered on the big stage

13: Ben Creagh - Flat out ordinary at any rep level and has been average at club level for the last couple of years
Big Pete; Would be good to compare the two and see which one is worse :)

I threw in a few stipulations for mine.

1998 - Now since it's the period I'm most familiar with.

Had to at least play three times in that position. When it's usually once or twice it's because there was an injury and they were simply filling a gap. Three means the selectors actually thought they were worth the investment at this level.

1. Kurt Gidley
2. Ty Williams
3. Josh Morris
4. Dane Nielsen
5. Anthony Quinn
6. Daniel Wagon
7. Peter Wallace
8. Brett White
9. Michael Ennis
10. Brent Kite
11. Ben Creagh
12. Glenn Stewart
13. Chris Flannery

Centre was the roughest position to select for. Nielsen was a gimme since he was clearly a level below but he was very ordinary and it truly is a testament to the Storm that he was able to play at this level. Quinn had a strong debut, but outside of that sucked and he's basically just remembered for being stamped all over by a teenage Izzy.

Lock was rough too, I don't even think Flannery was THAT bad but just compared to others who fit the category, he offered the least.

Kite might sound controversial but I don't think there was a more overrated player at this level. Was given go after go and absolutely sucked everytime he came on, Bellamy rightfully dropped him in 08 and everyone whinged after Kite won the CC. Gets another go...and sucks.

Stewart seems to escape criticism but he was another who was continually talked up for his club form, was given a shot and was exposed at this level. Soft hit ups, average defence, poor handling...he sucked.
