The problem with Maranta's performance was that it wasn't a one off.

He was terrible against Melbourne @ AAMI in 2013.

He was terrible against Melbourne @ Suncorp in 2014.

To simply write it off is silly and furthermore it wasn't the only bad game from Lachlan.

My point is he isn't a consistent player and that's the only point I was making.

2 games, a year apart, against a superior side with a record that's pretty much been one-way traffic against us is a strong case for him not being a consistent player? I agree it wasn't the only bad game but hey.

Ps the quote button is your friend:smile:

Corey Parker will play his 300th game of first grade tommorow. Congrats Corey well done mate!'

It's a shame that such an achievement plays second fiddle to a simple team selection.

21 pages of conjecture and not a mention that we have Blair who in my book is a back rower playing upfront.:loco:

Daniel Vidot had to contend with Josh Hoffman as a 5/8 on his side most of the season, let's not forget that.
Maranta os unquestionably the better defensive option against a team with Adam Reynolds on their books, but I'm far from convinced he is a better option overal than Vidot!

P.S. I hope he proves me wrong, but I don't think Lachlan will ever be a capable finisher. His work without the ball is pretty good, but once he actually has it in his hands, it generally all goes to shit.

If vidot plays prop for the jets for a while you'd have to think his days as a brisbane winger are over, how's he going to improve as a winger playing in the front row

Well, he's been playing as a prop on the wing for a few seasons so maybe that's his future - in the middle where personally, I think he belongs, unless he gains 10 metres in pace and loses another few kilos.

I'd say his future is as a prop. In fact I think he'd make a very good 1st grade prop. Great off the bench for us.

I'm probably the only one who doesn't hate the Whitchurch selection. For once the majority of our forwards are playing in their best positions (and I include McGuire & Blair in there), meaning two props & one second rower on the bench is sufficient. I'd be very concerned at having a Nikorima at hooker defensively. I can see the upside in attack, but again, for this particular game, he'd be a stain on the jersey of a Burgess twin. If Bennett does in fact run with Whitchurch, I believe it will be purely for testing purposes. I recall him being similar to Maranta, though debuting a little earlier, and just like Maranta he looked comfortable right from his debut but just never improved. Between Hodges, Kahu & Copley, there is a fair history of season-ending injuries, having someone of definite talent but poor NRL development on the bench makes more sense than sending him back to Q-Cup and never getting answers about his ability to cut it at top level. As for Vidot, I think he'd be better ripping & tearing for decent minutes on a weekend, hungry for more NRL, and staying on the boil, than warming the bench.

This is not a Yay Bennett Is So Smart apologist session, it's just my interpretation of what Wayne might possibly be doing.

Vidot dropped a fair few kilos in the offseason in the aim of getting some of his speed back, like people wanted, and now we have people wanting him in the front row? Madness.

Vidot is a monster and was easily a standout for us in 2014. But since Bennett dropped him all of a sudden people are telling themselves he was a liability. Madness.

There's always been members who haven't had a high opinion of Vidot and haven't viewed him as a winger - I don't think any of them have back-flipped.

Vidot did well by his standards in 2014, but those aren't exactly high given he'd been a fringe player the past three years.

Don't get me wrong, if I was in charge of selections, Vidot would be there either ahead of Maranta or Whitchurch but I don't think it's madness to leave him out either.

I think most people take more issue with Whitchurch being there ahead of Vidot or Niko for that matter, rather than Maranta. We at least can acknowledge the upsides of Maranta v Vidot, even if we don't agree with them as a selection justification.

But Whitchurch did poorly against Wigan and Vidot could play forwards or backline and be more effective than Whitchurch (as evidenced by him being picked at prop for Ipswich, although the Walkers' style is VERY different from Bennett obviously) which is why Whitchurch is there.

I guess this goes along with the luncheon article being about testing his young players to see what they can do. I just hope he follows through should Whitchurch or similar average players fail. Perhaps it doesn't bode well for Vidot seeing as Bennett has already coached him and they didn't stay together long
