State of Origin Game III - Live Discussion

The panel that voted on the POTS was Mal Meninga, Darren Lockyer and Laurie Daley.

Gagai not passing the ball to Oates is a separate issue but when given, Oates dropping it twice is a bitter pill for Oates to swallow. He screwed up miserably on the biggest stage & hopefully he realizes at-least now that he's best suited at wing than at back row.

Has anyone posted this but Gagai has a right hand carry and flicks it with his right hand.
He has always played on the right.
Should’ve swapped sides with Chambers who has played on the left before.

Hmm was he playing backrow?
In any case I like what Hunt did tonight.
We looked much sharper.

He came on for Gavin Cooper in the 76th minute so I imagine he was.

Kevvie is a pretty rubbish coach really, let’s be honest. Great player but fucked as a coach.

Kevvie saying Hunt belongs and looks good at hooker? Gawd

Much maligned by just about everyone, including me, but tonight DCE delivered.

He really played himself into, and Hunt out of, the QLD number 7.

Indeed, I thought he should have got MOTM, but can understand the sentiment in awarding it to Slater.

More broadly, we really weren’t too far away from winning the series. Game 1 was a pretty comfortable win to NSW, but game 2 could have been a totally different story if we didn’t implode in the final 10mins.

I get the feeling 2019 will see a return to the status quo with a QLD victory.

Did c smith just ask kevin walters what he learnt so he can become a better coach? No matter what he has done for queensland and I just get the feeling there is always another agenda to him... the way he said it, it just came across as a dig tbh lol

Hunt wasn't too bad, in fact we looked most likely to score when he was on the field. He'll never be a hooker because he's in his late 20s and played half most of his life, but he went OK. Much better than in the halves.

Channel 9 commmentary has always been shit. It’s just magnified because they jagged a series

It was magnified in game three 2015 as well..it was like the fuckers were at a funeral.

Shameful.

The only reason I can think that they didn't was the worry of having Latrell up against a known poor defender. Jimmy was pretty poor for the series and was probably an easier defend out of the two.

Gagai was able to cover him pretty well all night so I feel the call was justified in that sense.

The issue was him just not passing. Forget the flick passing some of them were simple catch and passes and he just fucked it completely.

There was so many people here getting stuck in when I was calling on Queensland to give DCE this shot, but I don’t think they’ll be quite so vocal after that effort.

He clearly had the fire in his belly from the get go, his long kicking game was fantastic and I can remember the first two or three long kicks he had downfield finding the grass and the people I was watching it with all commenting that it was the first time they’d seen a Queensland kick find the grass basically all series.

His short kicking game and his patience in building repeat sets was also similarly outstanding and was instrumental in getting Queensland home. I’m sorry but I simply don’t buy that Ben Hunt would have managed such precision and composure and once one of his kicks inevitably rolls dead and NSW get a seven tackle set all that pressure comes off, and you could definitely argue that without that early pressure to wear them down, NSW would likely have been in a better position to pull of something at the end there when the game was in the balance.

Thrown into the mix his good work in defence and especially in cover defence, and all in all it’s a great return to the Origin arena for him. Well done to the selectors for making the right decision and giving him the shot he’d earned and good on DCE himself for grabbing that opportunity with both hands and braining it. Hopefully for Queensland’s sake he doesn’t plan on letting go of that jersey again any time soon. Perhaps a bit more practice goal kicking over the offseason and he’ll be almost a lock for the next series. Now he just needs to take the leap and win us a series next year and all will be forgiven.

I rate Ash Taylor as a great prospect for the future, but a good 3-4 years out of DCE will mean Queensland aren’t under pressure to pick him before he’s really earned it and he’ll be free to keep working on his game and putting himself in a position where he has to be picked down the track

Hunt was good at hooker.
No he wasnt haha he was terrible for the first 20 mins on then the next 30 minutes he just did his role, which looked awesome because his first 20 was so shit... in 50 mins he took 2 runs and made 22 tackles. He also did 2 terrible kicks, one on a 3rd tackle that led to us getting pinned on our 20 and them nearly scoring, the next on a 4th tackle when tedesco had it covered with us pressing on their line.
