Tabuai strips the ball and Australia shift the ball right for Topine to score. A well executed second man play from Walsh, created the space for his captain and Jackson did the rest.

Good conversion from Walsh as well.

I liked the play from Walker before half-time. A minute out from half-time, up by 12, goes wide and had Feagai away. Referee called it back because the pass floated forward but that was exactly the right time to try something.

HT

Australia 18 lead New Zealand 6.

The scoreline isn't a reflection of the contest. New Zealand have dominated territory and possession but haven't capitilised. Australia have taken their opportunities when they've presented themselves and appear to be more decisive with ball in hand.

In the few limited opportunities he's had, Walsh has looked especially sharp. You would have to think he'll be in the Broncos Development Squad at the very least.

Try assist for Walsh too, plus a Thurston like conversion into the wind. He fumbled a grubbed but otherwise he looked really good.

Great first win, schoolboys playing against older guys was a great test and I think Australia handled it, much greater discipline.

Walker was a step above, that first try, goes blind, beautiful pass then backs it up again with a kick that even his outside backs couldn't handle it was too good.

There was a period 10 minutes before half time where he pricked his ears up and knew they were tired and hot and he just probed away. Kick for Walsh's kick was great vision.

Same second half last 10 minutes just runs and scores under the posts. Great step.

Howarth was strong and played well, great hands and passing.
Walsh is so fiery, I loved it. followed Walker and was always backing up, another impressive rep performance.

Roosters sign another top junior half who was hot property?
Colour me shocked.

Hope Wynnum win just because Jordan Drew plays for them.

I'll be shocked if they don't **** his development ... they have had scores of these top junior halves over the last 5 years or so ... only for none of them to go on and do anything.

Fogarty has been the best player on ground today.

I thought Page was outstanding, I would have given him the Hall Medal or Leary who I thought just never stopped and was a danger all game.

Great win by Bears, just relentless finals football and when they needed a moment it was there.

Wynnum just got tied down and then would come back but it was too little, for them to win they had to control the game. They weren't going to be good enough to come back.

Bears v Jets.

The Jets try in extra time was a cracker, Lockyer and Kemp like. Looking forward to this. Hopefully the Bears have learnt from 2016 and everyone has a quiet week.

I thought Wynnum would win the Colts too, Falcons hung in there and waited for their chance and took it.

Smoothy has been great all year, and he was great again today. Very dramatic win.

Cracking try.

It's so refreshing to see a forward use his skill-set. He picked the play and got his just desserts.

Did he really attempt it before full-time as well?

Smoothy has been great all year

I'm curious to see him in action. He had plenty of raps on him at Brisbane, but they pidgeon holed him as a workhorse style lock forward and he didn't seem to be developing as a 9. Up against Simpkin in a grand final, I'm interested to see if they let another one slip through their net.

I've got to say for all this talk of not letting anyone they want to keep slip through, Brisbane have lost plenty of quality prospects in the past year or so.

I really enjoyed Newtown, they have a real crack and play some footy. Yeah he tried it on the other side and it nearly came off. Gutsy play to go back again to it.

I think it will be an even game. No reason if the Bears show up this time they can't win.

I haven't enjoyed a game as much as I enjoyed the Newtown game yesterday for quite some time. Great arm wrestle and lots of drama right up until the end.

Can't wait for Sunday's game. I'll be wrapped for Newtown if they can get a win but I'll also be more than consoled if the Queensland side of the ledger can jag a win back.

One other thought: I really like the 10 minutes of extra time prior to Golden point. I think it makes it fascinating from a strategy perspective and yesterday's game unfolded as a textbook example of how well a 10 minute period like that can work when a field goal doesn't just end proceedings.

What the hell was that! So disappointed for the ISC.

I don't think I have ever seen a team throw away a game like that, from a position of strength Bears did everything possible to lose it.

I cannot believe that someone of Fogarty's ability and experience executed a kick out on the full, ran it on the last and got caught, let them chip and stood there.

Bears somehow lost that and I am still shaking my head. Unbelievable. Page tried really hard as always, losing Pat was brave. But that last 30 minutes swung the whole game around and Bears ended up with 44% of the ball from 16-6 up.

Ruldoph was absolutely outstanding for the Jets.

Really poor execution in the last 20 minutes or so and a side like Newtown just doesn't stop putting in until it's over. Have to think that last week's win provided motivation and self belief that they could get themselves back into the game.

Totally unexpected to win both the Premiership and then the Interstate game for a side that was only just inside the Top 8 for most of the season. Really happy for that group of players to achieve success together as it's likely going to be a very different side that runs out next season with a large chunk of their core side changing clubs (Flanagan) and likely going into First Grade next season (Mulitalo, Brailey, Magoulias and possibly Rudolf as well)

Lenihan has a gig at the Titans.

So that's Bears, Jets, Tigers and Cutters all with new coaching staff.

Wonder if Storm are pulling some strings here.
