Our bench sucks. Oates should be on there as he is better than Teo and also covers the backs.

No sir, I may not even have a job soon. Things are grim. Retirement beckons. I just have 200 on the Broncos and no other bets.
If you're potentially in the market for another job where you get paid a shitload to sit around and not have to do a whole lot, I know a football club that will love you and may well have a vacancy coming up. Physical fitness not important.

No good mate, hopefully your future gets sorted asap, unless of course it's a comfortable choice to retire in which case, enjoy!

Given the players we have to select from I'm not to upset with the 17 Kevvie has gone with. The defensive edge of Herbie and mead gives me more confidence then kenar in the centre's as we did in the cows trial. From memory mead is decent defensively and herbie likewise makes smart defensive decisions.

I love that TPJ and lodge have been thrown into the middle to start. They're both big enough, strong enough and mean enough to be able to intimidate any opposition pack. The way i see it is if they get bashed around they can piss off, shop them around to other clubs and find someone who's gonna do the job. It's time for both of them to stand up and make a statement and earn their $$$.

Personally probably would have started with Asiata at lock but I'm thinking the plan is for Carrigan to soak up the brunt of the hard work then bring Asiata on and throw him at some semi tired defence.

The bench looks pretty solid. Flegler and teo to come on as battering rams in the middle and im guessing Bullemor is been rewarded for a good pre season but maybe also a tactical ploy. Alot of talk that the new rules will fatigue teams even more so he might be brought on with 10 minutes to go and use is speed and footwork in the middle to try and bust through some tired defenders.

On the Deardon/Croft discussion, I'm hoping the addition of Asiata can maybe take some pressure off croft and also if turpin can play like he did in the trials. All in all the eels team on paper shits all over ours but hopefully we can at least compete.

He exactly is Oates better than Teo?
Did you not watch Teo last year? He is done as a player, he isn't capable to play an edge anymore and he isn't effective as a middle. With Flegler, Asiata and Bull on the bench Teo isn't needed. Should be Dearden/Paix/Oates there, even if they don't see any minutes. What happens if 1/6/7/9 goes down mid game? I can't wait to see Glenn play some minutes at 9.

I'm not getting why we'd want Paix. We leak points like crazy when he's on. He's not a 9 or a 14. At least not yet.

We have leaked points like crazy when he isn't. 4 forwards on the bench in the current style of game is a mistake.

Te'o also didn't have a pre-season and it was his first year back in league, along with the new 6-again bullshit. He'll be fine

Oates might be better but it's pointless giving him 20 minutes a game. He should be playing 80 minutes in the backrow every week in qcup and then, hopefully he'll get into first grade. I actually think he has potential to be a really good backrower, but it's up to his work ethic to make it from here.

Why is it a mistake? Fatigue under the new rules has a massing impact on the forwards.

I agree about Oates. If he pulls his finger out, there is no reason he can’t be a really good second rower, not just good but he needs to be made to earn it.

I really like the moves Kevvie has made with Oates, Dearden, Paix, Bullemor and Kennar. It is attempting to reinstall accountability.

I like what Kev has done, has not been bullied by the media into forcing Dearden into the team and pretending we have no options, not just selecting the exact same team as last year. Dropping Oates is a wake up call to all. He has also shown a belief in the team which I like.
Now the team just needs to play some competitive footy and we can all be happy.

The backup 9 is a concern, but we have the rest of the positions covered well enough. If a half goes down we send Asiata in. If it's an outside back we push Glenn or Riki to centre. Niu can cover fullback.

If it's purely to give Turpin a breather, Glenn will do fine. If he gets injured early in the game we're in trouble, but we would be even with Paix there because he kinda sucks.
