Yeah I agree. Exactly my point. The penalty isn't because of how ezra felt. It was 8 weeks because of the public perception and whatnot.

But yeah, in the scheme of things. I think 8 weeks is excessive.

let's put this another way.

Leniu gets suspended (with pay) for 8 weeks ... take a guess what happens to me if I call one of my indigenous colleagues a "monkey"

That's a great point. Sacked and probably charged, never to work again!

If you were to break a colleagues leg you would get the same I guess.

Or even Gordon tallis just belting ***** on the field.. probably the same outcome.

Yeh obviously it's horrible for him to be so sad. Hate to see it. My point is, personally I don't find it that offensive and ultimately it's okay to be okay after being called a name.
The point is it doesn’t matter what you think, because it wasn’t said to you. I could be like “you know if someone called me the N word I wouldn’t be offended” that doesn’t mean that African Americans shouldn’t find that offensive.

You’ve now assumed manifoneway is white and now said he it doesn’t matter what he thinks… pretty offensive

I am getting angry towards people who attack our team. I hate it when people look down at me because I am broncos supporter I rather be a broncos supporter over being a wests tigers supporter (Sorry Mum) but it's true
You will burn a lot of energy if you let that affect you… we are not well liked

What does letting it slide and not speaking out do, other than create a culture of acceptance?
Well we have to accept it to some degree. It's like any abhorrent crime in society. There's a consequence, 8 weeks is too long in my opinion. JT is a hypocrite. Spruiks about the impacts of colonisation but has made himself rich on a game that migrated here with the British.

Perpetual victimhood spruiked by the likes of JT has probably had more of an influence on why ezra feels sad about being called a monkey, rather than actually organically feeling bad at all.

I mean, can we really sit here and listen to these guys imply that society has been bad to these ridiculously highly paid athletes because of their skin color? Seriously?

Maybe not to JT, but not everybody with JT's ethnicity has been as fortunate. So JT owes it to the community to stand up and ensure racism isn't tolerated in the sport - otherwise it sticks to you like it sticks to the AFL.

Well I guess in a world where punishments for crimes are set by community expectations it kind of does matter what I think.

Yes I agree, racism should always be called out and condemned anywhere exists. Its evil, pure evil... it doesn't make JT any less of a hypocrite for calling out the impacts of colonisation while getting rich playing a game that migrated with the British.

He seems to be very quick to call out the ugly side of colonisation but hesitant to critisize the disgraceful side of his own culture at the time. It's been well documented that Indigenous tribes cannibalised their women, used them as sex slaves and also killed their children (infanticide). I find that much uglier than colonisation to be frank.

I'm not familiar with Thurston's take on colonisation and haven't seen him speak on the matter. However since Rugby League is his domain, I would expect him to have his say on the matter and ensure that this type of behaviour is condemned and frowned upon by the NRL. As you've pointed out, the sport has been great to JT, I'm sure he'd love to see other Indigenous men and women make something of themselves through this sport and not have to tolerate racial abuse.

Well put. Exactly right, he should stick to rugby league instead of imploring on the impacts of colonisation to his people - 30% of which would not have survived tribal infanticide. Colonisation has nothing to do with what happened to Ezra and JT is a hypocrite for bringing it up in this context.
